Commercial Description:
From the breweries of Colorado and the Pacific Northwest comes the winter tradition of a hearty brown ale that finishes with a strong hoppy taste. Made with a blend of Crystal Malts, and balanced with Centennial and Columbus hops, the frostbite was aggressively brewed to warm the beer drinkers in the southern Appalachian Mountains. Brewed as part of our new "HIGH COTTON" line in 2006, the Frostbite will be allowed to show it's true colors- brewed as a High Gravity beer under the new NC law- this fine ale tops out at about 9% ABV.

Bottle; poured a very dark amber, off white head (a little creamy) and some nice lacing. Aroma of grapefruit; caremal malt and general earthiness. Initial alot of caramel malt; grapefruit starts to emerge. Medium body and somewhat oily. Pretty crisp finish. Pretty good, but not as good as many in the style.

Poured a clear dark amber with a small off-white head. Citrusy and piney hop forward that almost covers the malty base. Decent strength to the citrus and piney hop flavor. Light to medium bodied. Moderate to strong hop bitter finish. Some warmth.

Pours a transparent dark copper orange with a nicely-lacing froth of off-white head. Aroma of toasty caramel malt and green earthy hops. Body starts slightly sweet and caramely malty with a decent fresh grapefruity hoppy balance. Finishes bittersweet and crisp, hiding its alcohol fairly well. A decent American strong ale.

bottle, from Raleigh Whole Foods. Good aroma. Sweet. Pine, little orange, brown sugar, little of a seltzer scent that kind of deadens things. Got a little mealy as it warmed. Clean brownish orange color, good head that faded fast. Little to no lace. Bittersweet flavor. Kind of harsh. Not unlike some barleywines I’ve had, Some caramel/roastiness about it. Medium to thick body, oily viscous mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Too harsh & sweet for me to enjoy overall.
