Commercial Description:
From the breweries of Colorado and the Pacific Northwest comes the winter tradition of a hearty brown ale that finishes with a strong hoppy taste. Made with a blend of Crystal Malts, and balanced with Centennial and Columbus hops, the frostbite was aggressively brewed to warm the beer drinkers in the southern Appalachian Mountains. Brewed as part of our new "HIGH COTTON" line in 2006, the Frostbite will be allowed to show it's true colors- brewed as a High Gravity beer under the new NC law- this fine ale tops out at about 9% ABV.

OK, I think I got this bottle from OhioDad, but there isn’t a single person I’ve traded with that has rated this beer??? anyway, thanks Scott, if not for this one, all of the others you’ve sent my way. wonderful hoppy aroma and a great looking foamy head atop the brown liquid. flavors of caramel and some molasses with plenty of hops to balance the mix. not spectacular but a good beer to start the night.

Found this at Lowe’s foods in Cary. The pour was brown, and the aroma provided caramel nutty malts with some brown sugar and fig hints. The taste was malty, nutty, and spicy, with some backdoor hopcitric notes. Well hidden alcohol.

Dark umber color with a tall lasting dark beige head. Hearty hops in the aromas with mild grapefruit and woody pine. Some earthy brown sugar, and stewed fruit (bananas, pears and prunes) and hints of bubblegum as the hops wear off. Turns out rather balanced in pleasant. Fairly full on the palate, but lightly silky. Quite biting and strong presently, perhaps a bit young yet. Mild caramel and nougat in the beginning, but quite quickly replaced with a dry licorice bitterness. Dry and somewhat woody in the finish. Perhaps the hops will mellow as it ages, but the bitterness seems to completely outbalance the sweetness and as it ages typically it would dry out. I think the balance is a little off to begin with, and age will likely not help in that area. Thanks Jonathan.

Bought a bottle of this last week and didn’t realize it was separated from the pre-6% stuff, I just wanted to try the new beer. At any rate.... Bottle. Pours a deep copper with a tall foamy tan head. Nose is spicy hops, creamy malts and caramel. Light tangerine and a bit of alcohol as well. Taste is a hop bomb but is so much better than I remember the old version being. This is more balanced. Chewy malts, nice caramel notes, spicy hops, light pine, and tangerine. Bit of grapefruit as well. Very nice! Body is medium-full with some carbonation fullness. Finishes much the same way it began - big, spicy hoppiness, caramel, citrus fruit, bit of pecan pie and malt. Nice upgrade from the previous version!

Not as bad as I was told to expect. A nice off color pale ale. Thin body, a little sweet. The hop profile is really nice both in flavor and aroma, spicey and fresh. Color is deep amber with tan head that lingers a bit. A real smooth drink. Hope to see more beer like this from cottonwood.

Bottle courtesy of Jonathan3584. Pours transparent mahogany with decent tan head that dissapears in no time. Aromas of musty pine with malt background, some alcohol present as well. Initial flavor is all sweet malt, that fades to hops, again somewhat musty, cardboard like character. Finishes dry with a lingering bitterness.

Clear borwniah copper, beige head. Serious grapefruit / pine aroma. Really nice earthy, pine flavor with looooong sticky, resiny aftertaste. Like Endo on steriods.
