My record with regional brews hasn’t been good, but this one stands out. Roasted, smooth, lingering flavor. Bitter hop flavor is there, but cleverly masked by the flavor of burnt berries. The finish is outstanding and long lasting but subdued. I unfortunately did not get much of a head on this one, unlike other commenters. I guess I’ll have to buy it again. Nice brown color with tan two finger, creamy and lasting head. Nice balance: some hops, nuts, malt, smoke, raisins. Very drinkable, good session brew, and not overly thick. The aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate and oranges, as well as light notes of coffee. The flavor is sweet with notes of cappuchino and vanilla. The body is a bit thin. Not the best brown ale I have had, but certainly not the worst. Nice brown color with a pretty good nice brown head. Nice chocolate aroma and flavor. Definitely a nice classic brown ale. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 3, 2006 12 oz bottle courtesy of my neighbor’s Beer of the Month Club. Nice brown color with a really nice brown head. Lots of chocolate on the aroma. Flavor was less chocolate and more classic brown ale flavor. Chocolate still came through, somewhat. Not Bad. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Oct 16, 2006 Not a bad brown.... a little on the dark side for a brown ale. No head, a little to much carbonation, but the taste was nice think and malty. Not bad, worth a try bubbleflubber (900), Collinsville, Virginia, USA

A beautiful pour really, as the initial 1-finger frothy-ringed tan head leaves a slight suds lace. Oh, the nose... yes, it is the nicest chocolate milk, reminiscent of my grade school days. (I really can’t get over how exactly the nose is of to choco milk.) The flavors are dry... roasted nuts, chocolate milk and toasted grains. There is a sweet essence to it, but the finish is subtle... of roasted chocolate cherries. The mouthfeel is nice, light and not overbearing. Carb levels may be slightly (and I do mean slightly) high for the palate, making the body a tad thin. Even if a bit light, it is still an overall decent offering here from Cottonwood... makes a nice session beer.... well-integrated.
