The aroma was strong enough to make me think I was going to drink a waffle. Bizarre brown sugar and maple flavor. Not bad, but I couldn’t see myself drinking an entire pint. My girlfriend, who is more oriented toward sweet beers, loved it. Recommended for the experience alone. NJBeerman013 (783), Trenton, New Jersey, USA

It has quite a bite, but changed to a sweet/warm alcohol taste as it warmed. The color is a very viscous brown with very little in the way of head. theacelatrain (262), Washington DC, USA

Pours cloudy brown with almost no head; caught me off-guard for a brown ale. Toasted malts and buttery biscuit flavors dominate, with a fair amount of sweetness, especially in the finish. Flavors are solid and round overall, and mouthfeel is smooth and lightly sticky, with low carbonation. Different for a brown ale, recommended for bitter fans - reminded me of a toasted ESB. tronraner (1934), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 25, 2005 Draught. Pours a semi-transparent brown with a thin head. The aroma is malt, some yeast, and butterscotch. The flavor is solid with malts and a touch of butterscotch with a somewhat roasty finish. Good, but I don’t think I would drink it for leisure. Tried it out again today for the first time in quite a while. I am not a fan of brown ales, so it’s certainly not one of the first things I would go for while at a bar, but this one is robust enough to hold my interest. It pours a few shades darker than many of its peers and of course packs that sweet, nutty taste found in typical examples of the style. However, the chocolate and coffee notes are a bit more pronounced here and it is just a few steps shy of being a stout. My single complaint is that the thick, cotton-candy sweetness starts to get too sticky towards the end of the glass. Not too hoppy at all, and with a taste similar to a Scotch Ale, but without the overpowering sweet finish. Highly recommended. KariCupcake (214), Lenox, Massachusetts, USA
