Alot of chocolate taste and overall too heavy to be an ale almost a stoudt. hershiser2 (914), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

Smells coppery, slightly malty. Plain. Flavor is overall plain, with hints of chocolate, molassas, and toast. Nothing special. Dorwart (1816), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 20, 2005 Thin dense head with light carbonation. Medley of smells in the aroma. Dog biscuits, soy sauce, roasted grains and a touch of molasses. Color is a nice brownish red. Flavor is crisp and bitter and yet roasty at the same time. More roasted grains, salty soy sauce and a bit chalky. Flavor ends abruptly and leaves a dry bitter aftertaste but not altogether positive. An ok brown ale. darkko (99), Kingsport, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 6, 2005 Looks like Coke when poured. When held up to light it takes on a deep red ruby color. Head pours thick, but dissipates quickly. Aroma is like chocolate and caramel malts, and also like dark roasted coffee. Taste is a syrupy chocolate with coffee taste on the finish. Hop strength is very mild in this brew. It goes down rather sweet and very smooth. Leaves nice aftertaste. This is a really good brown ale. Move over Newcastle. Another great Cottonwood product. Try their IPA! DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 25, 2005 Bottle. Burnt sienna/ruby pour with malt and caramel in the aroma. The taste is caramel malty, with some toffee and cabernet elements in the finish. Jonathan3584 (323), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 3, 2005 Deep brown with reddish tints under a tan head with tiny bubbles. Head’s lasting fairly well. Smell is of malt, somewhat roasty, very dry. Flavor is a malty beer, with a roasted finish. The coffee notes in the flavor don’t seem to fit well with the sweet malt that’s dominant. The roast in the finish lingers far longer than I expected. Tasty beer, but nothing spectacular. Braudog (3767), Dayton, Ohio, USA
