Salty, soy, bittersweet chocolate and raisins in the nose. Opaque brown body with low tan head. Dark chocolate, soy and raisin flavour meld with a strong roasty bitterness. Medium-full body with low carbonation. Bottle (1989 vintage) sampled at the post RBSG hotel room festivities. Vintage 1973 sampled at RBESG had some similar flavours but oxidation was far more advanced.

(Bottle 25 cl) Vintage 1983. Dark brown almost soy-like appearance, no head. Raisiny nose. Lots of dried fruit in the flavours and lots of roasted malt. Complex beyound belief - yummy. This really has aged gracefully. Thanks to Dixen for this unexpected gem. 170705

1989: Pour is black with almost no head, but what was there was light tan...smell is highly alcoholic...some cocoa and coffee but tons of dark fruit...TONS...taste was all dark fruit and alcohol...finish bitter and dry...this was interesting...

Bottled Sample @ sick_boy282’s Post-Real Ale Fest Mini Tasting
Vintage ’83 - Hazy brown cola color. Nose of cheat grass like hops, light pine, some oak and sherry. Lots of fig and well rounded malty notes dance with the yeast and alcohol. Damn, this is good. Light acidity and roasted cherry notes. I’m impressed how well this stood up to the age; it’s almost older than I am! Thanks Alex!
