1983: Pour a dark black with a nice mediums sized brown head. Roasted coffee with a sweetness to the aroma. Strong roasted malts in the flavor.

(MANY THANKS TO GOLDTWINS FOR SENDING ME A NICE BRWE FROM MY HERITAGE:1993 BOTTLE)as i pour into the snifter i get a muddy dark brown body.even with a generous pour i get no sign if a head at all.as i hold the snifter glass up to light i get dark red highlights around the glass.i dip in my nose for the first sniff....dark fruits are the first aroma that catch me.then i get some Cabernet type wine grapes.followed by some chocolate, and coffee.as i take the first sip i am greeted with loads of Cabernet type flavors. dark fruits such as wine grapes, figs, and raisins all hit me at once.i then get some characteristics of an imperial stout.roasted malt and chocolate make up those flavors.as far as alcohol it is well hidden, but then again this brew is about 14 years old.i must say for its age it has held up well. im sure its a bit past its prime, but at the moment its tasting like a fine cabernet wine.

Bottle 1983: Poured a dark thick black with a creamy brown head. The aroma was a sweet roasted malt and plum. The taste was very complex and delightful.

No head to speak of. Opaque black body. Deep plum, sherry, and wild berries aroma. Taste is very similar. Complex and hard to describe, but in excellent condition. Amazing that it’s held up so well for so many years. (0.33l bottle. 1983 vintage. Kulminator, Antwerp, of course.)

20 Aug 2006 (1978 vintage) - Starts with a barnyard aroma, with plum and sweet malt. Deep dark brown and red colour, low head and lacing. Liquor licorice, choc malt, coffee, big vegetable and hoppy flavour. Smooth and bitter with a big lingering aftertaste. Amazing that its this good after so many years, I don’t believe it is at its prime, given significant oxidation. A cornucopia of aromas and flavours,... ’like a well stocked barnyard.’

500th rating. Tiny 170 ml bottle via goldtwins (thanks!). From 1993. Pours a dark brown/almost black with no head. Nose is fruity/vinous.Tastes oxidized. Is sherry-like with some sour apples, cherries, and a bit of chocolate underneath. This bottle likely hit it’s prime 5 ot 10 years ago. Thin body. Watery mouthfeel.

’81 bottle. Black and oily. Coats the glass quite well. Huge chocolate and bourbon-like character in the nose. Very vinous, some rubbing alcohol in background. Debated on 10 for aroma. Flavor not as nice as aroma indicates. Chocolate sweetness up front, plenty of it, oxidation takes over rather quickly. Slight sourness detectable. Palate rather thin.
