nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Nov 8, 2009 On tap at Stone Bistro. Pours black with a one-finger tan head and good lacing. Aroma is very nice and roasty with coffee and chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, slight anise, vanilla, and a touch of dark fruit. I would put this in the porter category. Palate is medium-light and carbonation is medium. Very good overall. KimJohansen (6676), Copenhagen V, Denmark Dec 24, 2008 Black with medium beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and hints of sweet liquerice. Sweet flavour with roasted malt, liquerice and bitter coffee. alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA Dec 4, 2008 On tap at Stone a little while ago. Dark brown with virtually no head. Aroma was very roasted with some coffee and light chocolate elements. Flavor was of coffee and roasted malt, with some chocolate and fruit presence. A really light palate that was almost watery. Flavor lingers for a while. Not much hop presence. Snojerk321 (1917), San Diego, California, USA Nov 19, 2008 Tap @ O’Brien’s. Dark brown with a small beige ring. Dark fruits, oak and bourbon on the nose. Same on the flavor with an extra hint of vanilla, very smooth and creamy on the palate. Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Nov 17, 2008 Tap. Dark pour, brown head. Decent aroma, slightly chocolatly. Nice flavor, not too hot, but very flavorful. ChazMania (408), Pasadena, California, USA Oct 28, 2008 Tapped at Lucky Baldwins. It is really dark and sweet. Chocolate and plum/fig aroma and flavor. A good beer but not my favorite in the lineup we tasted with Stone anniversarys and RR-salvation. JohnC (2230), Mission Viejo, California, USA Oct 26, 2008 On draft at Beachwood BBQ.
This is a nice looking pour: walnut brown with a 1’’ dirty white head. The flavor is dry with some chocolate notes and it has a nice roasty aroma. Very tasty. chrisafari (100), Orange, California, USA Oct 22, 2008 On cask at Stone Brewing. Aroma: chocolate, roasted nuts and slight alcohol. Pours dark, dark brown (almost black) with full tan head. Flavor: begins with sweet chocolate and roasted malt. The middle is like sweet, subtle plums. Finishes with a dry smokey throat with a slight alcohol burn which moves up into the sinus. Medium to heavy body. Ok lacing. Drinkability is high, very easy to drink. Like a less potent and smoother Imperial Stout with a dry finish. Really nice!
