Craftsman El Prieto Sour Black Ale

Stone Sour Fest. On the sweet side for a sour--in some ways a lot like a Belgian tripel, gone sour. Interesting, but not a favorite.

Dark red in color. You can almost smell the sour coming off this. Tart all the way through with some fruit flavors coming through in the end. Had at Stone Brewing in Escondido.

(Draught) Pours a mahogany body with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, Dr. Pepper, nuts, berries, and some vinegar. Flavor of roasted malt, fruitiness, vinous, caramel, and moderately sour.

Stone Sour Fest, San Diego 2009. Cherry cordial aroma dark brown lightly bitter taste throws the finished product off a bit.

On tap at Stone Sour Ale Fest 09. Dark brown pour. Sweet malt, dark fruit, candy sugar, vinegar, notes of leather, cherries, and sourness. Tasty sour.

On tap at Stone Sourfest. Pours with a dark brown head over a dark brown body. Aroma of coffee, molasses, light wine and leather. Taste is vinegar, chocolate, grapes, funk and sour. Light bubbles.

Tasted on tap at the Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival 12/5/2008. This sour ale pours a medium black amber color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruit and sweet, with a touch of tartness and vinous sourness. A medium bodied sour ale. The malts are fruity and sweet with a touch of funk. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Sourness is kind of subdued but it hangs around a long time. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sour.

On tap at the 2008 Strong Ale Festival. Poured a dark brown color with a reddish tint and a very small sized off white head. Aromas of lots of roastiness, dark fruits, cherries, and black berries. Tastes of grapes, dark fruits, somewhat vinous, and cherries. Light to medium sour finish.
