On tap at Stone and another great and under-rated beer from Craftsman. Black with a creamy tan head. Aroma of oak, tobacco, and leather. Dark chocolate, oak, and a nice aged musky taste with a smooth, creamy velvet mouthfeel, and a pleasantly bitter finsih.

Pretty tasty . . . on tap at Lucky B’s. Pours dark, small tan head. Choclatey aroma. Slightly sweet, well balanced, complex and bitter. Nice beer. Pairs well with cigars and bangers and mash.

I had this one at the Strong Ale Festival in San Diego this weekend. This was by far the most menacing looking pour of them all. A blackened, evil looking liquid with a viscous yet creamy, thick light brownish head. The aroma was entrancing with wood, alcohol and yeast heavily apparent. The taste was very complex and very very impressive. It begins with a heavy malty sweetness immediately proceeded by a smack of alcohol and finishes with a very dry wood, alcohol and bitter aftertaste. The maltiness really flowed very well with the alcohol and the bitterness was not overboard in the aftertaste...definitely on my list to get it again if possible.

Tap at Beachwood BBQ. More or lessl black. Aroma of roasted malt and light bourbon. The bourbon comes through in the flavor, but does not overwhelm. It mixes nicely with roasted malt flavors, chocolate, and smoked malt. Smooth and creamy with a touch of alcohol in the body. Very enjoyable stuff.

Draft. Rich mahogony beer with a light tan head. Rich caramel aroma with light smokiness and backing roast. Caramel, roast, slight smoke flavor with light citrus hop backing. Medium-plus body. Lingering caramel, roast, light coffee, smoke, and grapefruit. Nice.

On tap at Father’s Office on 11/30/06: Pours an opaque black with dark brown edges and a frothy, well-lacing dark tan head. Sweet dark caramel and fresh piny hoppy aroma has nice roasted coffee notes. Body starts thick and sweet with a good fresh earthy resinous hop balance and a ton of dark chocolate flavor and some espresso bean roast. A nice, enjoyable, dark strong ale that could practically be an imperial stout.

Sampled with Mark @ the brewery: Very dark brown color with a large tan head. The aroma had big chocolate notes with a nice fruity ester base. Very large chocolate flavor started the taste off. Followed by a light roast and some fruity notes. The finish was dry with a nice bitterness and warmth. Medium bodied.
