Commercial Description:
"Red Malt Ale"
From the stone kettle at Craigmill brewery we produce this blend of traditional and New World beer, based on the Scottish tradition of rich crystal and red malts we have included north American Oregon hops. The blend of rich kilned malts is balanced beautifully with the sharp citrus flavours of the hops.

Deep red/brown colour. Served too cold to get much of the aroma, A balance of malt and bitterness on the palate, but can't say I noticed the Oregon hops too much. A robust and rather rustic ale, but quite pleasant, if unexceptional. Cask (handpump), Lord Moon of the Mall (JDW), Whitehall, London SW1.

Cask Conditioned, at the Head of Steam, London.
Amber with a lacy white head. Very well balanced. Sweet malts transition through to decent bitter finish. Very impressed with the condition of this beer. The Head of Steam is a top notch Free House with 8 hand pumps (7 beer + 1 cider).

JDW Maidstone. Good condition. Perfect temperature. Brown red colour. An initial malt sweetness is quickly balanced by dry almost tannic hops that lead into an earthy bitterness in the finish. Nice, but not my thing.

Deep ruby red with floral aroma. Some spice flavor at the beginning, nice sweet malty middles. Dry finish.
