Commercial Description:
The first pilsner was brewed in 1842, over a hundred years ago, in the Bohemian town of Plzen. Revolutionary at the time, it was a fired-brewed beer characterized by a rich golden colour, sweet malty flavour and an abundance of hops. Our brewmaster visited the Czech Republic to study their methods and in honour of our 20th anniversary we are proud to share his interpretation of this classic beer style. Similar to original pilsners, our direct fire brewing process and combination of specialty malts yield a beer with a deep golden colour and delicious malt flavours. Natural spring water creates a soft pure background on which Czech hops impart a fresh fragrant aroma and bitter finish.

I tried this beer on March 12, 2008 after purchasing from one of the local LCBO outlets. The poured a translucent gold colour with a generous head that quickly disippates. The aroma was very malty with some slight hoppish hints. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was very grainy, with very little bitterness.

473ml can from Hogtown Harry; Nose of grain and grassy hops; tranlucent gold with a big yellow-tinged head; flavor has very light hop bitterness balanced by light sweetness; a good lawnmower or session brew but only very light bitterness!

473ml can from MrManning - thanks Len! Deep gold pour with a big, fluffy white head - very pretty pour. Nice toasty malt nose, grassy and floral. Biscuity flavors, fresh cut grass and a light floral tone. I liked this a lot - well done!

Can: Clear yellow under disappearing rocky head. Malty nose with herbal hops in the background. Tastes mainly malty, some hops, biscuits and toasted oats. Soft on the palate with moderate bitterness. Not emblematic of the style but good nevertheless. Takes a backseat to its lager counterpart.

Thanks MDS. Lively gold, fluffy white head. Nose is spicy/minty hops, honey, malt & hay. Flavor is hoppy honey, light caramel. Very hoppy finish with some grass.

473 ml can courtesy of my Secret Festivus. Pours a clear gold with a foamy white head that faded to a thin ring after several sips. Light but pleasant aroma of bread, sweet malt, and grassy hops. The flavor is sweet malt up front followed by bread and grassy hops. Mild astringency at the sides of the mouth at the finish. A decent pilsener.

(Rating #1360)

Can: Poured a golden yellow color pils with a nice foamy head with average retention and some minimal lacing. Aroma of medium sweet malt with some nice floral notes provided by the hops. Taste is also dominated by some notes of sweet malt with some nice hoppy floral notes. Very refreshing overall while respecting the style guideline.
