Commercial Description:
The first pilsner was brewed in 1842, over a hundred years ago, in the Bohemian town of Plzen. Revolutionary at the time, it was a fired-brewed beer characterized by a rich golden colour, sweet malty flavour and an abundance of hops. Our brewmaster visited the Czech Republic to study their methods and in honour of our 20th anniversary we are proud to share his interpretation of this classic beer style. Similar to original pilsners, our direct fire brewing process and combination of specialty malts yield a beer with a deep golden colour and delicious malt flavours. Natural spring water creates a soft pure background on which Czech hops impart a fresh fragrant aroma and bitter finish.

473 ml can. Yellow gold colour with a mostly lasting fizzy and creamy white head. Grainy and lightly acidic aroma with some floral and grassy notes. Crisp toasty and grainy malt flavour with a light floral and perfumed bitter finish. Very restrained. Light to medium bodied, crisp but fizzy mouthfeel. Nothing to set it apart from 90% of the other true pilsners in the world - other than the mushroomy, earthy, dirty yeast character that develops as it warms. Oy - bad sign number 1 from these guys after the Molson takeover.

473mL can, Golden colour with little to no head... now its all gone. No lacing and mild carbonation. Doesn’t have a strong floral hop aroma to it. Grassy and grainy. The hop flavour is strong and bitter with a bit of malt lingering in the background. The hops I find too over powering in this beer. Medium palate. I’m not too impressed with this.

interesting pilsner, if it’s a pilsner. the pronounced malt profile suggests a munich type of brew, but anyway. golden hue with quickly dissipating white head, the aroma is sour malt with hint of caramel. caramel aftertaste.

Canned sample via gregclow. Light gold in colour with medium carbonation. It’s got a nice mix of floral hop and slightly bready malt aromas. Flavor wise, it’s somewhat similar to the regular Creemore Springs beer, only a bit less sweet, a bit more bitter, and with a nice grassy hop flavor. Still not really hoppy or bitter enough to put it into that traditional Bohemian pilsner class, but it’s nice and drinkable stuff.

473 mL can from LCBO, served cold in a tulip.

App.: Clear golden, nice foamy white head. Aroma: Peppery, herbal, grassy hops, light grainy malts, light apple juice. Palate: Medium body and carbonation. Smooth. Flav.: Lovely herbal, grassy hops, some light-roasted malt; very smooth; leaves a lightly herbal/resinous hop finish; no noticeable alcohol and mild bitterness.

Well done guys! Even my narrow-minded crotchety Kraut father couldn’t fault this beer. Just the 473 mL can. Apparently “real” beer comes in even metric measures...

473ml can dated 3 weeks from racking A rough pour from the can reveals a bright gold crystal clear lager with a rocky, sticky 2 finger white cap... modest retention but leaves a surface lace that clings to the glass. Aroma: Pungent biscuit malts fill the room as soon as the can opens...in the glass there is a grainy-bready note with the muted aromas of boiled saaz pellets (same hops as in their lager but more pronounced). The big floral "traditional" pilsner nose is lacking on this one...but spice hopping under the ample biscuity malt tones are not unwelcome . Flavor Profile: Big chewy biscuit malts dominate the flavor in the front side...light sweetness and a light herbal balance...mid palate the hops become more bitter and there are more medicinal bittering from the hops, light, barely detectable floral note....Finish is crisp, drying and hoppy with the sharp "bite: that is the signature of Creemore beers from their hard water. Still a good stab at a Spaten Pils clone....but one has to wonder at this price and with the availability of Urquell or Budvar why would you prefer a more costly domestic approximation? The answer is this is fresher tasting even if it is deficient in several "traditional" Czech pils factors , a fresh imitator is better than a stale or over dated authentic import.
