Commercial Description:
The first pilsner was brewed in 1842, over a hundred years ago, in the Bohemian town of Plzen. Revolutionary at the time, it was a fired-brewed beer characterized by a rich golden colour, sweet malty flavour and an abundance of hops. Our brewmaster visited the Czech Republic to study their methods and in honour of our 20th anniversary we are proud to share his interpretation of this classic beer style. Similar to original pilsners, our direct fire brewing process and combination of specialty malts yield a beer with a deep golden colour and delicious malt flavours. Natural spring water creates a soft pure background on which Czech hops impart a fresh fragrant aroma and bitter finish.

473 mL can. Looks like a pilsener, although the thick white head disappears completely. Smells like a slightly grainy pilsener. The taste is heavy toward the malt side, but lacking in the necessary hoppy bite. And despite being adequately carbonated, the mouthfeel is heavy, where it should be crisp. Maybe this just ain’t cold enough (7.5 degrees). I’m not a fan of the style, but just the same I’m not as impressed by this as I’d hoped to be. Blame Molson’s?

A nice orange amber colour with a small head that is quickly disappearing. It is fragrant, flowery, and lightly hopped with a weak, soft carbonation. Overall, nicely done and true to form. Fresh-tasting with a slightly sticky mouthfeel. However, the malts do give off a corny feel in the finish, often seems a little too sweet or cheap...

473ml can (473? what? Lets not go crazy and add the extra 27 milileters guys geez)("You know, because 474ml is just pushing it, and 472ml? Pfffff, haha, 72? Like get serious...that’s childs play"). Pours a nice golden colour, with a lot of head, not as pale as other pilsners. Looks moderately carbonated, and the aroma is mostly hops and alcohol (mild for both), as well as a little corn and that strange creemore "fire brewing" scent. The head settled very quickly which is true to the style. The taste is actually quite nice, plenty of pils malt, with a noticeable hop presence in the finish and aftertaste. I didn’t like this the first time I had it, but after re-visiting, I’ve found that it is actually a pretty enjoyable brew. I do plan on buying again.

473 ml can, Mulmur. Clean golden colour, very little head. Hoppy, grass & spice aroma. Smooth tasting, nice bitter finish. Good for the style, much more body than other brewers attempts.

473 ml can - pours a lighter hue than the regular lager, sort of a clear honey colour with a two-finger white head. Biscuity malt aroma along with some subtle noble hopping. Some breadiness as well. A bit on the light side for a Bohemian pils, but very nice and fresh smelling. Flavour has a bit of the pils bite, but not offensively so. Buttery and smooth, then grainy and clean with a mild bitter finish. Softer and more round in the mouth than other local pils (King). Overall, this is a very good beer, truer to a sort of Canadian approximation of the style than to the authentic thing. Very nicely balanced and highly drinkable.

473ml Can: Pours more amber in colour than I’d expected, quite a good sized white head. Good hoppy aroma, nice sweetness; so far so good. The flavour is quite sweet with malts, bready, with background hopping. It’s well balanced. I wouldn’t put it in King and Brickman territory for Ontario pils’, but it’s a decent treatment.

473ml can, slightly chilled poured into a tall pilsner flute. Lightly golden, transparent. This has a nice, tall head that is disappearing pretty quickly. There is a steady stream of carbonation heading to the surface. The aroma is fairly faint: distantly bready with some yeast and a bit of grass. The initial flavour is sadly metallic, likely influenced by the beer can, leading to some grass in the finish.

Poured a clear golden yellow with a nice white head. The smell reminded me of creamed corn and nothing but. First taste was the same but twice as harsh with the corn. This is horrible. I just found out that Molsons owns this brewery now...That, explains everything.
