Commercial Description:
The first pilsner was brewed in 1842, over a hundred years ago, in the Bohemian town of Plzen. Revolutionary at the time, it was a fired-brewed beer characterized by a rich golden colour, sweet malty flavour and an abundance of hops. Our brewmaster visited the Czech Republic to study their methods and in honour of our 20th anniversary we are proud to share his interpretation of this classic beer style. Similar to original pilsners, our direct fire brewing process and combination of specialty malts yield a beer with a deep golden colour and delicious malt flavours. Natural spring water creates a soft pure background on which Czech hops impart a fresh fragrant aroma and bitter finish.

473mLcan, via trade with radiomgb (thanks, Jeff!). Can is marked "special 20th Anniversary release". Pours pale golden, with a moderate-sized white head. Delicate, crisp hop aroma with some sweet malt. Grassy, hay and lemon up front, which quickly give way to floral hops. long, floral hop finish. nice pils.

A special 20th anniversary release I hope they decide to keep making. Clear filtered slighly coppery pour. Very thick bubbly head that lasts well. Nice sweet and bitter scent. Mix of hops and sweet malts. Very appealing. Mild carbonation. Very little lacing. Very hoppy taste, quit a bit of bitterness but too watery to be great. A slightly skunky aftertaste. A very good Pils, that I really enjoyed. I’m not usually a big fan of Pilsner’s so this is probably not the best one, but I like it alot. (heading back out to the LCBO to pick up some more before they are gone).

Can. Pours a clear bubbly gold with a large mostly-lasting white head. Pleasant enough aroma of herbal hops, bready yeast and grass. Flavour’s a bit hoppier then I expected -- it’s not that it’s really hoppy or anything it’s just that I was expecting to taste none. Saaz hops, sweet malt, biscuity yeast, a bit grassy and a light bitter finish. Good approximation of a decent European Pilsener. It does share certain similarities to the Creemore Lager. Medium bodied. This is far from my favourite beer style but this is a failry good version of it.

473 ml can courtesy of my Secret Festivus. Pours a clear gold with a foamy white head that faded to a thin ring after several sips. Light but pleasant aroma of bread, sweet malt, and grassy hops. The flavor is sweet malt up front followed by bread and grassy hops. Mild astringency at the sides of the mouth at the finish. A decent pilsener.

[333-20070610] 473mL (c/o tuqueboy, w/ him, jerc). Floral yeasty grains aroma. Clear, amber orange body with lots of big bubbles and a quick bubbly foamy off-white head. Floral grains continues in flavour. Light-medium body. Nicely put together.

473 ml can - pours a lighter hue than the regular lager, sort of a clear honey colour with a two-finger white head. Biscuity malt aroma along with some subtle noble hopping. Some breadiness as well. A bit on the light side for a Bohemian pils, but very nice and fresh smelling. Flavour has a bit of the pils bite, but not offensively so. Buttery and smooth, then grainy and clean with a mild bitter finish. Softer and more round in the mouth than other local pils (King). Overall, this is a very good beer, truer to a sort of Canadian approximation of the style than to the authentic thing. Very nicely balanced and highly drinkable.

Pours a deep golden straw color with a moderate head. Grassy aroma overall, fainter traces of peppery hops and earth. Pretty full and slightly sweet flavor or pepper, dirt, hay, a sweeter than normal pilsner malt flavor. Good spicy and flavorful hop finish. Beer felt plenty full for the style and had lots of flavor.

473ml can poured into a Pilsner glass. Poured a golden yellow color with a white head that disappeared in a couple minutes. Smells of grassy hops and some malt sweetness but overall I found the aroma is a little too light. Tastes of bitter hops with some malt sweetness. Finish is bitter but not in a good way on my taste buds. Average carbonation with a light crisp feel. The one can went down pretty quick but I can’t see myself drinking more than a couple due to the aftertaste. It’s ok but I’d rather have Creemore’s Lager instead.
