Commercial Description:
The first pilsner was brewed in 1842, over a hundred years ago, in the Bohemian town of Plzen. Revolutionary at the time, it was a fired-brewed beer characterized by a rich golden colour, sweet malty flavour and an abundance of hops. Our brewmaster visited the Czech Republic to study their methods and in honour of our 20th anniversary we are proud to share his interpretation of this classic beer style. Similar to original pilsners, our direct fire brewing process and combination of specialty malts yield a beer with a deep golden colour and delicious malt flavours. Natural spring water creates a soft pure background on which Czech hops impart a fresh fragrant aroma and bitter finish.

473ml can, bright yellow gold color, with a rocky white head, with a piney floral hop nose, with some cedary and coniferous accents, with some herbal spicy notes, and some sweet pale malts in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a good clean saaz flowery hop character, with some leafy, grassy and cedary hop flavors, a subtle mintiness, crisp pale malt, leading towards a hoppy, dry finish.

Canette de 473 ml, acheté au LCBO ŕ Ottawa (Rideau). Blonde assez claire, peu de collet. Légé arome de malte caramelisé, un peu sucré. Goűt légé de miel malté, un peu sec avec des notes d’agrume.

473ml Can: Pours more amber in colour than I’d expected, quite a good sized white head. Good hoppy aroma, nice sweetness; so far so good. The flavour is quite sweet with malts, bready, with background hopping. It’s well balanced. I wouldn’t put it in King and Brickman territory for Ontario pils’, but it’s a decent treatment.

A decent pils, the hops are present, a fair bit if bitterness the flavour is good. Mildly carbonated, its enjoyable, just falls a liitle short.

I tried this beer on March 12, 2008 after purchasing from one of the local LCBO outlets. The poured a translucent gold colour with a generous head that quickly disippates. The aroma was very malty with some slight hoppish hints. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was very grainy, with very little bitterness.

Can: Clear yellow under disappearing rocky head. Malty nose with herbal hops in the background. Tastes mainly malty, some hops, biscuits and toasted oats. Soft on the palate with moderate bitterness. Not emblematic of the style but good nevertheless. Takes a backseat to its lager counterpart.

tallcans bought in brampton ontario. nothing wrong with this beer; although i don’t find it to have a strong aroma at all nor a predominant taste. can’t believe someone under me wrote it to be a "dark golden" color, mine is quite light and golden. head that disappears fast but well carbonated and definitely refreshing. would buy again for a summer day.
