Pours a dark dark ruby colour..good head nice lacing, very very good first taste, has a sweet smell..no clue what it is but pleasing..good taste...my favourite by far from this great new orleans brewpub!!! good times!

Draft. Decent dunkel. Nice smell with a robust character. Good well balanced taste. Not my favorite style but a decent brew.

Middle of the road beer. Nothing to make a person want to go back and have another before they leave town. Felt it was kind of bland, nothing really stood out about it.

On tap at the brewpub, this was probably the best of the four beers I tried. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a small white head. Couldn’t smell much, but there were some malty aromas. Tastes a bit malty as well, with some slight cherry as well. Not a great beer, but probably will be one of the best they have on tap.

(On tap) Beautiful, deep mahogany with a reddish glow and a small, off-white head. Slightly impure nose with some burned malt. Medium body with lots of burned malt and an ashy edge. Bitter, burned finish. Apparently the brewery intended a Münchener Dunkel but ended up with a Schwarzbier - or rather a Dry Stout. Oh well, shit happens. Still a decent brew though. 270306

Black Forrest is a Munich Dunkles or dark lager by style, and it is a very good one in my opinion. It has a slight roasty character that has it pushing into the Schwarzbier or black beer range, but I would still call this one a good dunkle. Crescent City Black Forrest pours to a beautiful, bright, deep brown color, with a creamy tan head, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose is quite malty, with good sweet and dark malt aromas, and light touches of roast. The palate is firm with more good malt character. Flavors of sweet malt, nutty and slight roasty flavors coat the tongue. The body is quite smooth, making this a very drinkable beer. Black Forrest finishes with more sweet malt flavors up front, then ends slightly malty and roasty. This is a very well done example of Munich Dunkles in my opinion. This beer was the perfect match with a dozen raw oysters shucked fresh right in front of me at the bar. Oysters and stouts are naturals together, the sweet and salty/briny flavors of the oysters play off the dry and roasty flavors of the stout. Munich Dunkles makes a nice replacement for stout, as the sweet and slightly roasty malt flavors worked exceptionally well with the succulent salty/briny ice cold raw oysters. If you ever find yourself in New Orleans, give the Crescent City Brew House a try. Their beers range from average to excellent. At the very least you will get some fantastic oysters on the half shell, and a very well done dunkle to chase them down.

Rich and malty? not quite - one of the most bland dunkels I’ve ever experienced - it kind of tastes like someone twisted a clove into a glass of water and added a shake of cocoa.

Watery and flavorless. Which builds on its total lack of aroma. To be fair there was some very mild roasted malt flavors, but it was so watery it tasted like drinking a decent beer...underwater.
