DuffMan (2719), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Jul 13, 2009 Bottle. I had this at Daikoku restaurant in Nadi, Fiji. The meal was fantastic, but the beer was a bit of a dud. No BBD on the bottle, but I think this one has been "on the menu" a while! Pale yellow, grainy, on the watery side, no hop character at all really. Dry boxboard finish. mkel07 (494), Brisbane, Australia Oct 9, 2008 Very watery and flat tasting. Poured with almost no head - a very ordinary beer. Glad I only bought one bottle. chrismwpcs (72), South Hedland, Australia Dec 25, 2007 What the fuck? Yellow soda water. Who ever fucked this shit up fell into the vat I am sure. These fuckups should stop sitting in their board rooms wanking over sales and actually drink some fucking beer and they may understand why this shit does not even rate as bilge water. madquacker (706), Canberra ACT, Australia Nov 17, 2007 No mention of CUB on the label but this is watered down VB. No head at all. Mild watery taste with the usual CUB metallic taste. Actually better than Crown because it is watered down. Nasty. IrishEoin (19), Ireland Feb 21, 2007 I paid a lot of cash for 6 bottles of these, and By God was I let down. Terrible, it makes Heineken look like the nectar of the gods. ALLOVATE (1126), Perth, Australia Nov 23, 2006 Thought I might get this out the way as quick as possible. Like ripping off a band-aid, sneak this one in between pints and its all over. Not that I doubt it being an award winning, complex and balanced lager.
No ’pfffft’ when I cracked it but sure enough the CO2 erupted once it hit the glass. Clear, medium gold, typically Australian looking with lots of carbonation and a big, fluffy white crown that legged it well. Metallic ’rusted-car-body’ and stale hop nose with just a little watered down lemon cordial. Soapy and wishy-washy in the mouth, featherweight in body and stretched for flavour. Slightly dank, metal tinged flavours with a flutter of malt showing. Finish holds very little, though an unsalted peanut flavour lingers. Tastes a little chlorinated too. Sadly this was better than a standard Crownie in the fact that it went down with more ease and was honestly less offensive. Still, clear bottle, very little flavour and mid-strength, hmmmm! (375mL, 28/06/07, The Beer Store, Morley) bluevegie (2169), Perth, Australia Oct 11, 2006 Picked up two stubbies of this to try out but the second one may sit in the fridge because one is more than enough. Clear bronze body, which was darker than I was expecting, on a rocky average size white head. Hops on the nose that don’t smell that fresh. Taste is what the nose promises, not much! CUB have released another winner, now waiting for the Crown Pilsener which may be dearer than the real crownie.
