| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Apr 1, 2005 Updated: Sep 26, 2006The following was a rating for DAB Traditional: This oddly obscure "An Ale" is a puzzlement. It comes across more like an American dark lager than anything else, brown with a roasty nose, lightly sweet malt tastes. Fairly light bodied with a mildly bitter finish, I’m not sure what I just drank.

Earlier Rating: 3/28/2005 Total Score: 2.7 Looks real nice, but it’s a fairly watered down dunkel. The clear brown coloring promises some good, solid maltiness, but it’s very light on the nose. Likewise with the taste - a little caramel malt, a hint of smoke, a bit of a spritzy feel in the throat. Not bad, but not real good.
The above combo rating is a result of having DAB Traditional combined with this dunkel. ecbeerguy (86), East Chicago, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Mar 26, 2005 Smells great, looks great, but a bit watery. A nice, malty aroma, a bit sweet, the head dissipates quickly, a there’s a very dark beer. It’s very drinkable, very smooth, a touch of hops, and rather refreshingh. A bit watery though, which dissapoints in the end. Dickinsonbeer (3502), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Mar 19, 2005 Deep amber/light brown, very clear, with a good head. Aroma is nice an malty with hints of hops. Flavor is malty yet slightly stale with smoe dull cardboard like taste. Somewhat crisp finish but still had a wierd aftertaste. Not that great but not as bad as I was expecting either. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Mar 16, 2005 2004 bottle from Julio’s. Pour is a drab black olive-grey meets dark chestnut brown, very clear and transparent with a poorly retained, fizzy beige head. Aroma and flavor smell like Earl Gray tea, which is fine with me, but it certainly dosent smell much like a dunkel. That’s the first thing that came to mind and it stuck. Dry, black tea leaves, light herbal notes, light nuttiness. Perhaps some light anise flavoring and a very very faint touch of sweet malt on the finish. Peppery carbonation, light body. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 15, 2005 A medium sized active white head. Dark amber body. Aroma is caramel apples with some hints of cherries. The taste is light raosted caramel with some bread. A light body with the roasted flavors sticking around in the aftertaste. A nice beer overall.
