Enjoyed the initial aroma which had great hop aroma. The body & mouthfeel was rewarding with excitiment for every tastebud. The overall package was sensational considering it had travelled to Australia. It was a little dusty due to age but had amazing qualities Australian brewers could only dream of...worth sending them to Germany to see how it really is done TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Jan 27, 2006 This beer is styled after a classic Dortmunder, but is brewed with dark malts, making it as clean and balanced as a classic dortmunder, but with just a touch more malt character and a hint of toasty malt.
DAB Dark pours to a bright, chestnut brown color with a nice white head that slowly fades, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is fresh and clean with some light herbal hop aromas balanced with just a hint of toasty malt aroma. The palate on this beer is very round and clean with a firm, yet understated malt palate of crisp malt and flavors of dark toast. DAB Dark finishes with more crisp and toasty malt up front, then ends with a clean, slight herbal hop bitterness that balances this beer to perfection.
Balance of malt and hop character is what dortmunder is all about, and DAB Dark is the type of beer that shows you can step over to the dark side, offer a bit more malt flavor, yet still remain very balanced and drinkable. This beer is a natural with German fare, and could be match with dishes such as sauerbraten, goulash, bratwurst, or would even match well with a nice grilled steak. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA

Surprised I hadn’t had it until now, and then I noticed only three others have had it, so it’s obviously much rarer than the other DAB. hopscotch (5549), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 27, 2003 Beautiful, sparkling clear, mahogany lager. Large, frothy, off-white head. Spider web lacing.
The nose is of Russian black bread and clover honey. Hint of cocoa.
Nice, bold flavor. Roasted nuts, cocoa, vanilla. Well-bittered. Good balance. Earthy, damp straw flavor in there too.
Medium-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and lively carbonation.
Lengthy, bitter, astringent, dry finish.
Underrated... much like the 1988 and 1993 WVU Mountaineers football teams. Both had undefeated regular seasons; neither was listed in the Top 25 preseason poll. Just thought you'd like to know.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 4, 2006 From a 12 oz. long neck brown bottle with a short blurb about the dunkel lager and a coded lot/packaged number on the bottom of back label. Made a good appearance, poured a clear red/caramel hued brown with a foamy, bubbly topped beige head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, good carbonation. Had a toasted caramel malt nose with a spicy hoppiness in the background. A mildly crisp, smooth light bodied mouth feel, above average drinkability. Taste was a sweet toasted malty, caramel with a light graininess, a spicy, slightly herbal favored mellow bitterness towards the end and a crisp, sweet toasted caramel finish.
A tasty, affordable Munich Dunkel Lager from DAB, a good everyday lager.

Pour was a nice deep dark brown (almost black) with a one finger off white head. Taste was delicious. Roasted/burnt malt in the front with a bitter coffee aftertaste that stays on the back of the throat. Great carbonation that carries the flavor rather than overpowering it. Didn’t like their regular lager so I wasn’t expecting much. Glad I tried it. itsmax (103), Sydney, Australia
