Commercial Description:
English: The oldest known recipe for mead to be written down in the Nordic countries was in 1520 by the Archbishop Olaus Magnus. The recipe comprised of water, honey, hops and brewers yeast, and concludes, that "on the eight day - or earlier in emergencies - the mead may be drunk, but the longer it is left, the purer, better and healthier it will be." Our products are brewed based on a recipe from about year 1700, and the ingredients are pure and 100 pct. natural - guaranteed free from additives of any kind. Honey is the major and most important item in the recipe.

Thanks to hopscotch for this one. I have only had a few meads so Im gonna do my best to rate this appropriately. Pour is clear golden yellow (think apple juice) Aroma is sweet, green apple, brandy, alcohol, honey, and faint ginger. Flavor is very sweet up front with notes of honey and brandy. Finish is alcohol, more sweetness, apple and kind of malty. Well, this is a bit cloying but the clean finish makes it drinkable. It is interesting stuff and Im glad to have tried it but I don’t think I can do it everyday.

Great mead. Not a beer by any stretch, but entertaining flavour, good ginger addition and a smooth taste.

Like her sister before, my GI Dansk Mjod poured clear straw while a rich and lively nose teases with hints of spice, ginger, and honeycomb. She has more of a bite in her nose which I would attribute to the ginger and hops. A bit of a thinner mouthfeel, she nonetheless coats my tastebuds with fresh honey and lots of aromatic ginger. Warm spices mingle throughout her palate and linger in the finish, nipping at my tastebuds along with the ginger. Her thin body prevents her from becoming too cloyingly sweet and smothering my senses. Sweet yet hot ginger nibs fade just in time for me to enjoy my next quaff. Whispers of hay soften the palate, but unfortunately do nothing to lessen the impact of the ginger. As I finish my glass, I only wish the ginger had taken more of a subtle approach, complimenting the sweet honey and spice notes instead of dominating them.

The GI Dansk Mjod is definitely ginger-forward which for me is not as pleasurable as the previous offering from Dansk Mjod, Viking Blod. It could be a personal bias though, as ginger isn’t exactly a personal favorite. But if ginger is for you, then the GI Dansk Mjod is just for you.

Ceramic bottle. 3 year old bottle. Thanks to Bluntaholic. Pours a clear golden color with no head or lacings. Nose and taste is sweet of honey, wood, vanilla, orange, and alcohol. It seems somehow rounded and mellowed out. Warmth and some alcohol. Quite sippable.

Bottle, thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing. Pours a clear dark amber with no head. Sharp and sweet aroma, of honey, herbs, and a lot of alcohol. Taste is also sharp and sweet, with honey, pine, wood, and a big alcohol bite. Lingering sharpness. Very hot, but not bad.

ceramic bottle. pours orange, no head. aroma of honey, apricot and faint alc. flavor is slightly cellary, almost as if the ceramic bottle could be tasted. honey, mouldy, sweet, spices, something resembling but not quite apricot. ends bitter from the alc. what i call mouldy might actually be some spices, herbs. probably is.
