Commercial Description:
English: The oldest known recipe for mead to be written down in the Nordic countries was in 1520 by the Archbishop Olaus Magnus. The recipe comprised of water, honey, hops and brewers yeast, and concludes, that "on the eight day - or earlier in emergencies - the mead may be drunk, but the longer it is left, the purer, better and healthier it will be." Our products are brewed based on a recipe from about year 1700, and the ingredients are pure and 100 pct. natural - guaranteed free from additives of any kind. Honey is the major and most important item in the recipe.

The aroma is defiantly sweet with an herbal element. The honey really shines through though. The appearance is copper gold and still. The flavor is like the aroma with some ginger. The palate is smooth. Overall I like it but the alcohol is not well hidden!

According to the rather lengthy description on my bottle, the recipe for this mead comes from around 1700 and it’s brewed with ginger and hops. It pours a rich gold color and leaves lond legs on the sides of the glass. The aroma’s pretty sharp and perfumey, strong alcohol with flowers and distant honey. Thick and creamy to drink, the honey flavor is laden with alcohol, flowers, vanilla, and old wood. The finish is sticky sweet, mildly bitter, and full of alcohol. More interesting than enjoyable, so this one’s probably not a repeat for me.

Strong perfume-like honey aroma, very floral. Shimmering gold color and still. Sweet taste and alcohol doesn’t mesh up well Aside from dark honey, there is a taste of mango and white grapes. Dried leaves on the palate.

Glass from the bottle at Sunset Grill on 8/13/07
Another deep golden-amber mead, slightly softer than the Dansk Klap, with similar legs and a high clarity.
For bringing the alcohol down a little over 2%, I definitely was impressed that it seemed significantly more lighter than that (wasnt expecting hardly any change). A little bit more phenolic spiciness comes out, and the alcohol isn’t quite as fierce, with more of a plum-brandy note and not quite the beat you over the head with raisins and thick brown sugar that that Klap had. Still, it wasn’t too far behind, in an absolute sense, and just seemed excessive and overly decadent, to say the least. Thank god for Sunset Grill and their mead flights; I would have been pissed if I bought a bottle of this for $20. Thick, syrupy texture, alcohol is quite problematic.

Pretty ceramic 750ml bottle from SL. Golden honey colored pour, nice inverted fingers along the edges, no head obviously. The aroma was rich honey, grapes, berries, light ginger. The flavors melded together so wonderfully, light vanilla and oak under all of the aroma qualities. Alcohol was quite warming and surprisingly settled as the bottle warmed a bit (initially served at fridge temps). Hops added along with the ginger? The ginger was hardly there (a good thing for me!) and the hops completely missed. Mouthfeel was oily, yet not thick, syrupey, or honey-like viscous at all. This one worked terrifically late in the evening alongside fresh fruit and pound cake, while watching the Birds open their ’07 preseason. These meads are now winning me over, unfortunately at an impact to the wallet.

Bottle. Pours a clear deep gold with no head. Strong aroma of ginger along with some sweet honey. The flavor is also quite strong with tons of ginger along with some sweet, almost syrupy, honey flavors. There is an almost immediate strong burn, which I believe is more from the ginger than the alcohol. This mead is definitely all about the ginger. The label says this is made with ginger and hops, however, I did not detect any hops in the aroma or flavor. Fans of ginger will want to give this mead a try. Those who don’t enjoy ginger may find it overbearing.
