Commercial Description:
English: The oldest known recipe for mead to be written down in the Nordic countries was in 1520 by the Archbishop Olaus Magnus. The recipe comprised of water, honey, hops and brewers yeast, and concludes, that "on the eight day - or earlier in emergencies - the mead may be drunk, but the longer it is left, the purer, better and healthier it will be." Our products are brewed based on a recipe from about year 1700, and the ingredients are pure and 100 pct. natural - guaranteed free from additives of any kind. Honey is the major and most important item in the recipe.

(Bottle) Clear deep golden color. Sweet honey and raissin scent, but also a lot of alcohol. Sweet honey scent. Though the aftertaste is alcohol and it’s quite warming, almost burning in the throat. Apparently they add hard spirits to this to stop the fermentation and keep some of the sweet stuff from the honey. I don’t think I appreciate the amount of alcohol that has been added. Rich mouthfeel.

Pours a deep golden honey color with no head. Aroma is of sweet honey, ginger, and some hops. Flavor is sweet honey, a hint of ginger, and a bitter hoppy, alcohol finish.

Pours a still, rich gold. The aroma is full of honey, but the flavor comes across a bit hot. At first I thought this was from the alcohol, which is big, but it may be from the ginger after all. Thick with a lingering spicy burn from the ginger.

Sampled at Tria Fermentation School’s mead class, 5/8/07. Clear orange amber color, topped with a few white bubbles. Sweet honey and floral aroma, with notes of sherry. Thick, syrupy mouthfeel. Spice and honey flavor, with warming alcohol. Long spicy finish.

Very interesting. Initially, the aroma brings to mind a silver tequila of all things. With a bit of snobbery and swirling, some flowers and spices, yes ginger, reveal themselves. Nice honey sweetness on the finish. A bit to alcoholic for my liking, but not bad overall.

Pours yellow / gold with no head. the aroma has honey, lots of alcohol warmth, ginger and lightly floral. Full body with a good bit of velvety sweetness. The taste starts with honey and a thickness that has a different feel from the barley malt beverages I’m used to, but it is very nice. The finish has slick sweetness and a clean ginger taste. The alcohol is present, but for 19% it is very well masked and this is a pleasant beverage to sip on. This is my first mean and it is a winner. I look forward to trying others.

Bottle, Københavnske Øldage 2006. Golden and clear. Really strong alcohol aroma. Sweet honey aromas. Spices are noticeable, but hard to detect/identify. Unfortunately it is way to high in alcohol content and aroma to be appreciated.
