All the same, this mead appears to have been aged as it’s thickened and a bit caramelized. 11026 (1779), Alabama, USA

Medium to dark amber in color. A still mead. Sweet and harsh smelling at the same time. Definite honey, but something underneath just is different smelling. Nice honey flavor on first taste, then a stranger more aggresive flavor, not purely alcohol but something else. A very nice mead, I believe the Jadwiga has more balance and smoothness, but this has nothing to be ashamed about either. BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Thanks wohlfs for bring this rare mead to Joe’s party! Deep amber with an oily sheen. The aroma has only minor phenols (nice), honeycomb, snappy bitters, salty, peaty, and earthy. The taste is so shocking smooth for something so big. Major sweetness is quickly balanced by the sharp salty and earthy vinous nature. The alcohol, while never too dominate, does a fine job of cleaning the palate for the next sip. The feel is, did I already say, smooth. What a great job of brewing here. I’m completely impressed. Get some and share with friends. Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 28, 2004 This is what you call high octane. No head and no carbonation. Strong alcoholic aroma. Sweet and spicy with some honey and raisins. Color is a dark clear amber which dances up the side of the glass with good legs. Great flavor. Sweet and thick in the mouth. Smooth is not a just word for how easy this stuff goes down. Just slides down the throat effortlessly. Once it gets down thereit hits you with a small little warming fire in the stomach and a nice alcohol kick. Maybe a bit of caramel in the flavor with more honey. Finish is rich and creamy and makes you want more. A great sipping brew well worth the effort to obtain. Thanks to Dixen shipping this jem from Denmark! Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 12, 2004 Updated: Dec 13, 2004Tiny, frosted bottle. Murky brownish color without head. Aroma is mostly alcohol with a twinge of honey. The taste is as smooth as silk. Honey, burnt molasses and caramel. Tried this side by side with Apis Jadwiga mead and although similar, this was a little more complex and less sweet. Thanks Jeppe (BierKönig ) for this real gem. egajdzis (3636), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA

Flavor is almnost all honey. Pretty sweet with a little spice background and then comes the alcohol and then comes more alcohol but not in a bad way. Good on a cold night while attacking villages. Palate is smooth, oily and syrupy.
