Slightly lactic, alcohol nose with bushels of dried plums and dark raisins, tawny sherry, oak and gobs of caramel. Sweet caramel flavor with tons of warm alcohol, dark raisins, light molasses and dried plum. Full-bodied with a chewy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Sweet, red-hot, drying finish. A big CHEERS goes out to boboski for leaving this one out as trash in his Orlando-humid-hot garage with a bunch of Burton Batons! ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA

Rich, inviting nose of rip plums and oak wood, some old, slightly oxidized caramel malt, some black cherries and cedar wood, with little bit of honey and orange as well. Rich, smooth and frothy palate, with rich dark plum, French oak, and some spicy dark plum and date yeast notes. Overall a really nice old ale, one of the more flavorful ones I’ve had, though the little amount of oxidation keeps this just below amazing. kmweaver (2482), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a hazy, dark brownish-amber color; off-white head with fine-bubbled lacing. Dense, oxidized caramel and dried red fruits (raspberries and strawberries) in the aroma; fruit leather and very chewy. Full, syrupy mouthfeel: intense caramel and dried red fruits; boozy fruit leather; warming alcohol presence. Lengthy, dried red fruits and syrupy sugar finish. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

Dark fruity notes. Malty caramel and sweet flavor. Smokey dark fruity notes. Alcohol overpowers the fruits though. Very strong tasting. Finish is malty and strong. Full bodied. Nice barleywine. dra19 (89), holland, Michigan, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 8, 2007 Pours a dark amber with minimum white head. Aroma has lots of sweet fruits with some malt. Flavor had some fruits but overpowered by the malts and alcohol burn. Very nice beer in my opinion but not a top barley wine by any means. lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA
