A bit of fig and berries. A bit more hops then I was expecting, but pleasant. Alcohol is noticeable and a bit hot in the nose. Appearance: Dark reddish brown in color. Light beige head was medium sized and creamy, but didn’t last long. Nice lacing. Flavor: Sweet malt with some big toffee and brown sugar notes. Some dark fruits, mostly figs. Geting some light woodiness in the middle. A nice lightly spicy yeast presence throughout. A decent hop bite into the finish. Alcohol is not hidden and again is a bit hot at times. Palate: Full bodied and smooth. Moderate carbonation. Strong alcohol warming over entire mouth and down throat. Overall: A good brew. Alcohol should be toned down a bit to make it better. railcat1 (582), Orlando, Florida, USA

Thanks to Clark for sharing. Nice color- deep bronzy with a nice head. Aroma is more to the hoppy side especiallly compared to the other old ales- almost becomes solvent-like. Sugary sweet flavor with some caramel, toffee and nuts and a light hoppy finish. Light peppery spice in the end- probably due to the apparent alcohol. Not sure what year or abv this was? fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

Alcohol and nice hop bitterness on the very tail. Full mouth feel and alcohol burning. Pretty Tasty. bogdi1 (32), Helsinki, Finland
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 25, 2006 12 oz. bottle from jtw da Finnish man - thanks John! Ok, now this is something! Aroma is a potpourri of following compounds: oak, vanilla, alcohol, sherry, strong fermented fruits and burned sugars. Alcohol is easily detectable but gentle. Hops have mellowed a lot. Flavour is sweet and fruity with a warming twist of alcohol and aggressive hop bitterness in the end. An uncompromised and challenging but balanced barley wine. Truly a work of art! steveconwell (1), Kokomo, Indiana, USA does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 18, 2006 Nice Taste...Startles the ladies at first but warms right up after a few pulls...Would drink again!!! The aroma is sweet with strong notes of both fruit and alcohol, the fruit notes are mainly of fresh fruits, but also some stale fruit notes mixes in. The flavor is very sweet and the alcohol burns on the palate and is accompaniet by lots of fruity notes. A very nice beer - but You can easily get drunk of it. Papsoe (15107), Frederiksberg, Denmark
