Bottled. Clear amber coloured. Light brown head. Aroma is sweet, dense fruity and reminds me a bit of sherry. Has some distinct alcoholnotes. Liqourice, sweetness, cocoa, fruits and a touch of herbs is notable in the flavour. Is medium to full bodied. A bit off balance. Light bitter alcoholshot in the end. I really like this. Thanks to suiiy for the trade.

GTMW ’06. Cler brown-amber body, little carbonation. Berry esters and appley maris otter in the aroma. A train wreck in the flavor - extremely peppery alcohol. Undrinkable.

Great Taste of the Midwest 2006

I stopped briefly by Dark Horse to check out their offerings. I wish I would have had time to go back. Of course, I could have spent ten hours at the Great Taste and still been finding new things. In the end, I settled for the barley wine, figuring I might as well go big.

Aroma / Appearance - Vanila, cherries, roasted malts and the scent of old hardwood floor played with my nose. There was also an orange/nectarine aroma trailing behind. The body was a cloudy orangish-red with thick creamy lacing and a dense half-finger head.

Flavor / Palate - The mouthfeel was very creamy like a barleywine shoud be. Smooth and esay to drink, it left a tart bitter impression in my mouth. Raisins, plums, caramel, roasted barley and cherries round out the flavors. At the end was an almost bourbony aftertaste. It might have been a little hot but the sweetness took off the edge somewhat. Not bad - I will have to spend more time at the Dark Horse tent next year.

Shared with my buddy Odeed who got this form Footbalm. Nose is dark fruit and caramel, Hazy red-orange with just a few bubbles for a head, flavor was of the hops, with a fruit note , and lots of alcohol, a nice burn for the finish.

(MANY THANKS TO FOOTBALM FOR SENDING ME THIS BREW OFF OF MY WANT LIST.)murky orange body with no head.aroma is of hot alcohol, hard candy, brown sugar, and citus hops.flavor boasted much of what the aroma gave me.honestly the alcohol was a little "off the scale" on this one.i think it needs some time to sit down.(maybe a year or so.)

This wax covered bottled brew from a rating party in Indianapolis, IN poured a small sized head with a frothy top of mostly diminishing foamy white colored bubbles that left behind transparent caramel brown colored carbonated body. The aroma was hoppy malty and very much barley wine like. The mouth feel initially very tingly and hoppy then finished with a a medium tingle. The flavor was strong of hops and very strong of caramel.

Pours fairly flat, was able to rouse up a small tan head. Hazily copper appearence. Nose is spicey, plenty of citrus and pine, caramel malts, grain, alcohol hmmmm? Body is full, lightly oily and a touch tannic. Plenty of hops and malt, pine, caramel and alcohol heat, fruity, berry notes and a smidgen of chocolate somehow slips in. Finish is lightly sweet, hoppy, warming and bites ya on the way out. Thanks to OhioDad for the trade!
