Nice burgundy waxed cap, poured a copper-orange color, small head, ok lacing (pretty good, actually, for the abv). Hoppy aroma of citrus and light pine resin. Flavor was lightly sweet, but balanced: some caramel, brown sugar, and grapefruits with increasing temperature. Mouthfeel was somewhat grainy sugar-like and this thing finishes with an alcohol / citrus combined zing. tjthresh (1779), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 30, 2006 12 ounce bottle poured into snifter. Ruby red with a short lived tan head. Aromas of toffee, cherry, all very blunt. Very very alcoholic. Very sweet finish. Long alcohol burn. Rich full body. You really need to let this one get some age on it. Lots of chocolate and boozey aromas with some fruitiness. Milk chocolate flavours with oranges, lots of booze, and hot caramel malts. Strong finish, cloying at times. Decent, and would like to get another one to age. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2006 Bottle. Pours an orange-brown-caramel coloured body with a small whitish ring of head. The aroma is very nice - caramel, yeast oranges, and alcohol. Alcohol is also evident in the flavour but it’s not completely overwhelming as there is plenty of other nice caramel-sweet malty and citric hop notes. A solid sipping barleywine.

The newness of this are a turnoff but it does still have the caramel hop slap but this needs to go back to sleep for a while.
Rerate: 2004 bottle I think. I have had this in my cellar for 2-3 years now, got it from Styles. Man, what a different brew. tons of great butterscotch or toffee notes with loads of ripe fruit as a backup. Cornfield (4966), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 30, 2006 Looks like a near-headless amber ale, but sure didn’t smell or taste like one. Toffee malt, dark dried fruits, molasses, and alcohol are predominant in both aroma and flavor. Smooth despite its hefty abv, it’s somewhat sweeter to taste and has a light trace of smoke with a soft, nutty bitterness. Very good, indeed.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 21, 2006 Appears a red toned amber with an off white head that slowly fades into a film. Nice amounts of scattered lacing left around the glass.
Smell is of apple, rum soaked raisins, alcohol infused toffee, syrup, brown sugar, and mild woody smokiness.
Taste is of a sugary version of the mentioned aromas.
Mouthfeel is full bodied, and sugary. TomDecapolis (3203), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of dark fruits, vanilla, caramel, wood, maple and a strong alcohol presence. Flavor of the same but was picking up more of a hop presence in the flavor.
