Nutty, only a little chocolate, with a bit of dusty, almost chalky smoky malt feeling. One of your drier browns, in my estimation. This was never the best Brown in the world, but it was better in 2002-03 than now. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

The aroma is caramel and chocolate with a touch of nuttiness. The flavor is caramel, toffee and nuts. Finish is soapy. Mouthfeel is slightly thin. Nice session brown. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 17, 2005 Tap: Grand brown cloudiness, topped with a creamy whipped head. Complex nose starts with mocha, chocolate, coffe beans, carmel, and other candy. Mouthfeel is medium and smooth. Palate consisted of a mocha burst followed by pale/dry sweetness/nuttiness. I think this needs a little thicker mouthfeel. Highly reccomended. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Aug 14, 2005 Tap @ GTMW. Beautiful deep chestnut in color with a thin, foamy grey head. Big caramel and nutty whiff with some chocolate dinner roll hints. Full, nut laden quaff, lining itself with the likes of hazelnut casings and caramelized pecans. Carbonation might be a little too accentuated, but the rest of the balance is achieved. Otherwise, it’s about as good as a brown can go. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA

The color is a very dark amber with some brown coloring. The aroma is pears and light cinnamon with a hint of oranges. The taste is bread crust, oranges and high waulity dried tobacco. Very nice and satisfying brown. jeffc666 (1895), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Feb 13, 2005 Dark brown with a small light tan head. Light cardboard and nutty aroma. The flavor also has some cardboard as well as nutty roasted malts. Lightly hops. Watery body. This bottle was past its prime but it seemed rather uninspiring regardless. unclebleen (620), California, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 30, 2004 Thin looking brown color with large chunks of floating sediment and a small tan head. The nose is a malty mix of toffee, some chocolate, raisins, alcohol and a hint of hops. Light bodied and watery. With roasted nut and a touch of coffee and hop flavors. Not a bad brown ale, but far from a classic.
