Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA

12 oz bottle VIA sliffy at Mystery Swap 2.0 (thanks man!). This pours a hazy unfilter orange with an average sized beige head. Nose is strong with citrus and pine. Taste like it smells with some added orange peel, but it lacks a decent malt backbone. Body is way too light for the amount of hoppiness here. With that said, it is actualy smooth, but like a smooth hop tea. Carbonation is medium. I love hops, hops and more hops....but there needs to be at least some body..this one lacks body bigtime.

Bottle courtesy of Sammy: Poured a cloudy dark beige color ale with a nice big foamy head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of piney and citrus hops is quite overpowering but also very enjoyable. Taste is a mix between some nice caramel and toffee malt with some huge bitter piney hops. Body is quite full with what appears to be low filtration. I am actually surprised at the rating since I thought this was actually a lot better then the norm.

Wow! great I.P.A, smooth and well balanced like the description says. This brew was more like a pale ale with a dry citrousy, piny taste , the hops are malty and toasty. Look was hazy and the lacing was awesome with a sticky look to it. Had this with a green sauce steak burrito which only made things better. Highly reccomended. P.S just because it’s not overly hoppy does not make any less than your average i.p.a.

Bottle from tjthresh, thanks Tom! Pour is orange copper, with some haziness to it. Aroma is pine hop and citrus fruit. Taste is delicious, very smooth with a nice balance between the hops and the malt. A nice, straight forward IPA, well done!

Hazy orangy copper with a thin to nothing white head. Piney mango hops and slight alcohol over a significant malt backbone. The sweetness is very well balanced with the hops and alcohol. A good low carbonation and nicely slightly sticky. About where I want an IPA. The flavors are pretty much in line with the aroma, but a few little flaws come out. The big piney mango hops and slight alcohol are still over that nice round malt backbone but now I see this is a bit too biscuity and toasty for an IPA. Not unpleasant, but not quite spot on. the finish is toasty with alcohol, the lingering aftertaste has a floral bitterness. I also notice some diacetyl. Not bad, I’d drink more of this.

Pours murky medium orange with tiny particles. Aroma is mainly of grapefruit and lime hoppiness. Flavor is balanced twards bitter, with a long hop finish. Light to medium bodied, watery.

tap at the brewpub - Pours copper with a thin, lingering head. It has a pleasant citrus hops aroma that carries through into an excellent citrus hop flavor with some mild malt backing. Lively carbonation pairs with a medium body, then this ale ends with a crisp, moderately bitter finish. Nice.

clear orange small white head. not much lacing. toasted nutty biscuit malty aroma with a nice dash of floral hops. bitter flavor but the toasted caramel malt flavor is in the forefront. just needs more green hop flavor. bitter nutty finish. medium body. ok but nothing great.
