Commercial Description:
We are very pleased to introduce the first annual Dark Corner Ale. This is a collaboration beer designed and brewed by Dark Horse Owner/Brewer Aaron Morse and Corner Brewery/Arbor Brewing Company Owner/Brewer Matt Greff. Both brewers will travel to the other’s brewery to brew the beer.
Red caps were brewed and bottled by Arbor Brewing and black caps were brewed and bottled by Dark Horse

Lightly hazy amber body with a small beige head. Rich, malty nose with toffee, vanilla, vienna malts and grapes. The flavor is lightly sweet, moderately bitter with nuts, raisins, plums, berry and caramel. Medium/full body is soft with light carbonation and a drying finish.

black cap. pours a dark amber with a reddish-orange hue. only half of the head and not as much retention as the red cap. aroma is more roasty with some smoke where the red cap seemed more floral. flavor of this one is roasted malts with hints of chocolate and vanilla without the bitterness of the red cap. each version was decent in its own way, but neither were spectacular. thanks to Styles for the bonuses!

rating #998 tick, tick, tick...

More sediment than the Corner version, and subsequently a bit heftier. Also, darker in color. Roastier in flavor, too- with a bit of sweet fruit and iron complementing the brown sugar, brown malt. Hops on the aroma that were totally apparent in the Arbor version are gone here - this is a malt bomb and well done.

Bottle. Body is the color of darkly stained walnut, but lets a bit of light in around the edges. About one and a half fingers of head. Aromas are of dark fruit, brown sugar and coffee grounds. Flavor is a slight variation on these flavors. Center stage is held by the dark chocolate flavor of roasted malt, but is butressed by molasses and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is slightly watery but there is enough alcohol that it is detectable.

Black cap. I enjoyed this rather different beer. Fruit and hop aroma and only modest roasted malt. Light brown color and relatively light body. IMO, this style is under-appreciated. None of the beers reach the 4 rating level!

wow. dark pour. wasn’t expecting that. not all to hoppy. some chocolate. a little watery, which makes it easier to drink, less to enjoy.

black cap=dark horse...pours dark reddish brown with nice lacing and minimal beige head..aroma of piney hops, sugared cereal, and oatmeal...flavor of dark fruit, fig, raison, alcohol, dark chocolate, and burnt toast.. ends with oat-like qualities..becomes somewhat hard to finish towards the end..drink at a cooler temp

dark mirky brown with a very thin white ring on the outskirts of the glass, aroma of raisins and alcohol, fruit flavor, slighty spiced, raisins, berries but not tart, brown sugar, molasses, caramel malts, strong mouthfeel and mouth presence, a bold ale
