| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 26, 2008 A- Pours a deep mahogany/amberish hue with little to no head, very murky.
S- Smell is really dominated by piney hops, perhaps a bit of sweet fruit.
T- While this is a beast abv wise, it has an incredibly balanced taste (obviously dominated by hop). Starts out biscuity and moves into a grapefruit bitterness. A bit perfumey at the end. Alcohol is present all the way through but is hidden very well.
M- Thick with little carbonation.
D- For such a high abv beer it is very easy to sip on. In my opinion it just suffers from being a bit one demensional. While it is extreme in the amount and intensity of the taste, nothing in the flavor profile is very diverse. A good brew that I will probably try again at some point. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 25, 2008 Opaque, thick dark orange pour with a one finger white head. Nice hoppy aroma & flavor with a creamy malty finish. 13.6% abv? I don’t taste it. I guess it will hit me in about 20 minutes. 17thfloor (1500), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 24, 2008 Interesting... pours clear dark brown/red with no bubbles and basically no head. A very very malty IIPA. Smells sort of like an old ale and IIPA, also lots of alcohol in the aroma. The 98 IBU’s are well masked by the rich, but smooth, dark caramel malt. Tastes somewhat oxidized (my bottle is only a month old). The "pineyness" of the hops really sits in nicely with the rich malt. Doesn’t really need the aging... the hops are already overwhelmed. Flat body, a little bit oily. A very rich beer... covers the 13.6% nicely. Strange strange strange... Dough77 (777), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 21, 2008 This was/is the easiest drinking IIPA I have EVER had. And it scales in at a whopping 13.6 percent! I had no idea until I was getting ready to plug this rating in and realized what a big boy it actually was. When held up to a light its certainly one of the better looking IIPAs around with a nice auburn fire red glow. Nose is huge hop with a terrific fruitiness topping a potent citrusy pine. Silky smooth fantastic drinking. Wow. Watch out as this one could easily sneak up on you if you have a couple laying around. clingman71 (260), Centerville, Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 20, 2008 Updated: Apr 21, 2008Draft at Rich O’s/New Albanian. Pretty standard orangish amber color. Aroma of caramel malt and piney hops. Flavor begins malty, with a solid burst of hop bitterness. The hop flavor is very resiny and finishes long and dry. The mouthfeel is substantial. I enjoyed this beer very much! We should be able to get Dark Horse beers in OHIO!!!!!!! sunevdj (1784), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

Very full flavored of hops and has strong alcohol notes. Vanilla hint. Full bodied, slightly creamy. Medium carbonation. Long bitter finish. dukefan (173), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 17, 2008 2007 edition. For all the IBUs in this beer, the hops are not all that prevalent. Flavor, and a bit "bigger" than the IPA, but not better. General66 (171), Streator, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 16, 2008 12 ounce bottle. Wow, this one is definitely a bruiser. Pours a nice burnt orange color with a small white frothy head that disappears quickly. The aroma is a nice mix of malts, grapefruit-like citrus hints, and piney hops. The taste is a blast of hops and citrus with a malty bitterness lingering in the background. This was a very full-bodied beer that left nice lacing on the side of the glass. The wonderful mixture of flavors masked the 13.6% ABV. This is my first experience with Dark Horse Brewing... I am looking forward to trying more of their beers!
