Commercial Description:
Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

Bottle shared by foofaa. Pours a somewhat lcloudy amber color with a smallish tan head. Aroma of pine, citrus, spices, alcohol and some floral notes. Taste is much the same, with the malty sweetness coming to the front. somewhat hot.

Dark red-amber pour with a huge amount of suspended sediment. Very thin brown head. Sweet aroma, lots of piney hops, light citrus and caramel malts. Mouthfeel is initially pretty thin but once the resinous hops hit, it gets a lot thicker and resinous. Lots of alcohol heat towards the middle. Finish reveals a bit more pine, some orange citrus, alcohol, nice element of dried, dark fruits. Sweet, sticky and long bitter finish.

Thanks to foofaa. Pours a lightly hazy orange amber with a bunch of floaties and a smaller bubbly off white head. Aroma of caramel, tangerine, floral, pine, candy sweetness and some light alcohol. Flavor of malty sweetness, hops, citrus, resiny pine, caramel and some alchol.

Bottle, with thanks to Gregis for bringing this back for me from Sprinkle’s place in Indy. Pours a dark copper, clear with plenty of chunky yeast floating around, a sizable off-white head that persists, good lacing. Aroma is initially floral, with some pine and citrus rising out as it warms; some caramel malts present as well. Flavor is some sweet malts intermingling nicely with the hops bitterness; alcohol is undetectable, long bitter finish. Very interesting throughout!

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, alcohol, and pine. Poured a turbid brown/orange with a small off-white head that lasted throughout. Cloudy and murky. Opaque. Good lacing. Lots of floating particles, mostly large. Medium bitter flavor. Tastes of hops, resin, pine, and caramel. Medium to full body. Average carbonation. Chunky texture. Biter citrus-hop finish.

You’re a barleywhiner. Am not! Am too! Am not! Am too! Mooooommm! Bottle from Styles in July ’07, drank 10/10/07. After difficulty, I popped the waxed cap to reveal a wonderful hoppy aroma. After pouring into my glass, the aroma morphs into a wonderful melanoidin malt smell. The head is small but of a wonderful consistency of small microbubbles fighting their way through the heavy bodied liquid. Amber color, heavily cloudied by the sediment I poured into the glass. Taste is of a great combination of sweet fruity malt and side of the tongue bitterness. Reminds me other great strong IPAs: Devil Dancer, 2yr old Double Bastard. 4.5, but could easily be a 4.6. Excellend beer.

Cloudy orange color with a medium head. The ’cloudy’ might be because of all the jostling I had to do to get the wax sealed cap off.
Aroma was more like a barleywine than an IIPA. Sweet, dark fruit and brown sugar seems to be the stars here, over-riding the pine/citrus hops. Taste was stupendous, if you’re thinking barleywine. Raisins, brown sugar and spicy/candied orange. The hop presence is even lower in the taste.
A little warm, but no distinct alcohol flavor. Syrupy texture. Sweet finish. This should age really well. Glad to have an extra to try it out.
