Commercial Description:
Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

Thin fizzy head of medium sized bubbles. Reduces to a sticky ring around the edges. Huge pine sap aroma with lots of caramel malts, saw dust and ginger. Little bit of fruit in there also. This stuff smells like fresh wet plywood. Maybe this is plywood aged!?! Dark copper in color. Man, I did not realize that this was 13+% when I opened it. Looks like a good night for me! Big alcohol presence and warmng. The tongue is dancing in my mouth right now! Lots of sweet caramel, piney hops, pepper and HEAT!!! Finishes alcoholic and bitter with plenty of sweetness that lingers. A great big powerful IIPA. NICE!!!

Big hoppy pine aroma, hint of citrus and maybe grass/herbs. Creamy off white head, mostly diminishing. The body is hazy and the color a brownish orange. The initial flavor is moderate to heavy bitter, the finish the same; leaves a good bite on the tongue. The body is medium, the texture a little watery and a little creamy. The carbonation is soft.

Why do I love getting bitch-slapped by these huge hop bombs again and again...? There is a certain pleasure in just surviving the experience. But this potent resiny brew is just a joy for this inveterate hophead. Big bitter nose...I think heaven is located somewhere in the PNW. Pine and citrusy acids singe the tongue, palate, and throat...in that order. But there is a big sweet caramely malt bottom that anchors this baby pretty well, too. Since in heaven there is no beer...I guess you’ll find me enjoying these in hell.

The Dan Journal #100! Tasted 8/8/07. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a beautiful amber hue. Webbed white head. Caramel and lime citrus aromas. Big bold and full bodied. Big caramel malts and alcohol burn. The malts hold a nice coffee acidity. Big roasty malt flavors. Huge and delicious.

GTMW 2007. Poured a slightly hazy orange color. Head was off white with good retention and lacing. Aroma was of malty caramel, graham, crushed pine needles, and citrusy hops. Slightly sweet on the tongue with a cotton candy-ish note accompanied by malty caramel, grapefruity hops, and assertive alcohol and hop bitterness.

A familiar IIPA aroma. REminds me of Moylans with the strong hops and malt balance. Very thick however there are a lot of large floaties. It is good but the sense of been there done that remains.

12oz bottle from discount liquors in milwaukee, I must admit that this is the freshest bottle of this beer but it is pretty potent overall and doesn’t take away from the score at all. Brilliant orange/red amber color with small off-white head and some lacing. Huge citrus/grapefruit aroma with big caramel malt, alc and earthy tones. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, a little dough/cookie, big hops of grapefruit/pine/citrus (very strong pineapple as well), alc is pretty strong but not obtrusive, very interesting. Med, creamy body with slight alc burn. Very interesting brew, another well done brew from Dark Horse.
