Commercial Description:
Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

bottle.....appearance: dark, cedar-brown with a thin caramel head.....aroma: sweet caramel malt nose with barely a hint of any hops which was mildly surprising. a big emphasis on the malt with this one.....taste: sweet malt, pretty smooth for having a high abv. didn’t have a huge hop component to it but pretty enjoyable all around. i’d like to taste a fresh bottle of this.

Holy crap is this a strong beer. At first it is just astoundingly complex and rich but after a while it becomes overkill. Glad I split this one with another person. Pours a thick hazy reddish amber with a thick, lasting, creamy, light caramel head. The aroma is sweet, citrusy bitter, alcohol, dry, very vinous. The flavor is very dry and alcoholic, caramel, citrus, grapefruit, hop of course, and sediment (bottle conditioned?). The palate is very thick and dry. The finish is warm and bitter. Finishing this was a battle from the start.

Draft at the brewery in a snifter glass. Orange color. Small head with good lacing. Strong sweet citrus flavor with more then a hint of the high alcohol content. This one is a sippin beer best appreciated in small quanties. Overall tremendous flavor, but if you are looking for a highly drinkable beer stick with the regular Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA

12 ounce bottle from BBB63
Murky orange with a sticky tan head. The bottle didn’t say anything about being bottle conditioned, but it looks like somebody dumped a White Labs vial into my glass. Rrrrrrrrr. The aroma is ripe peaches and apricots, oh yeah, and a pine forest. A nice dose of caramel malts along with pine hops and hot alcohol in the flavor. Quite full bodied, which may save this beer from being a complete wreck. Damn yeast in the bottle.

12oz bottle. Wife bought this while on a trip to Wi. and mother in law delivers beer on visit to AZ. Citrus aromas light up the nose. Orange body white head and above normal lacing. Citrus flavors though out with oranges being most prevelant. Dry hop and alcohol somewhat noticable. Syrupy, sugar sweetness in body texture. Smooth enjoyable beer and sweet dry citrus on palate. May god bless the wives and motherinlaws that buy ratebeer guys beer and deliver it too.

12 oz bottle with waxed cap. Pours a glowing dark reddish amber with hazy floaties. The head is off-white and creamy and goes to a thin film that laces the glass.

The aroma is more subdued than I expected - sweet caramel malts, alcohol, and some grapefruity, piney hops.

The flavor is some sweet toasted caramel and fruits that is quickly overpowered by a big alcoholic hop bitterness. The finish is big and raw and harsh with a little residual sweetness. The alcohol is noticeable but not as much as expected from a 13.6% beer. The mouthfeel is full and syrupy with some sharp carbonation.

Overall, a nice DIPA. It’s not at all balanced and a little too hot, but still enjoyable.

12 oz, poured a murky, chunky unfiltered orange amber with a small white head. Scents of orange, pine, wood, sugar... of course quite hoppy. Sweet at first, orange fading into grapefruit and hops, alcohol presence throughout (obviously). Very enjoyable IPA, and the best I’ve had from Dark Horse.

Bottle: Murky orange color, nice light head and awesome lacing. Nose of bright alcohol and hops, very fresh but forced smelling. The flavor is nice and balanced, fairly hoppy and sweet, candy, finishes grassy. Full bodied. Brings balance together, more like a san diego pale ale. Whoa, that’s strong.
