Dark fruit sweet start to he flavor (crystal malt), strong bittern (dry grapefruit) kick in the finish along with noticable alcohol. An overdone IIPA. BeerBelcher (943), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 16, 2007 I was rather impressed with this beer. Its flavor had a rather unusual composition; it was very hoppy with lots of pineapple flavor but was not bitter the way a "big" APA or DIPA would be. Quite good.
The beer poured a cloudy red (in a tulip) with a thin but very dense and sturdy layer of head. Aroma was hoppy sweet with lots of citrus. Flavor was very pineapple-y and dry, but without a lot of mouth-puckering bitterness. Interesting. Mouthfeel was smooth. The 13.6% alcohol was dangerously well-hidden. Scarily drinkable.
Finally, a beer I had at Landmark 1850 that tastes fresh/unfettered (although I’m still not sure as it was intended)! surlysober (41), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

This is a very interesting DIPA which I say because it doesn’t have a big hoppy bitter kick at the end. The flavor is a peachy/fruity/amarillo hop, but there’s really not that big bitter finish that I’ve come to expect from a lot of DIPAs. The aroma is very similar to the flavor (nice and fruity) and the color is a nice semi-cloudy bronze. The mouthfeel is great, very smooth with lots of warmth, but the 13.6% is hidding remarkably well. Overall, I would recommend this to any hop-fan as an interesting brew despite the lack of the bitter kick. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 14, 2007 Bottle from brewlackhole. Dark, murky amber color. Smell of brown sugar, pine, rye, citrus, malt, hops and alcohol. Taste of pine, hops, malt, salt, alcohol, grapefruit, flowers, spice, honey and a touch of wood/bark. It warms you up fast. The hop flavor goes away after a couple of sips and more malt dominates at the end. I like the alcohol content but It needs to be hopped up to my liking. Still enjoyable. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 12, 2007 Consumed at the Pewaukee tasting. Ungodly good hop aroma. Mostly clear pale gold color. Thick, rich, moderately bitter IPA. A little on the sweet side.
Some alcohol and warming apparent.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 8, 2007 Solid body. A bit too much malt sweetness. Hops fruity, but not very bitter. Wax covering on cap is unnecessary expense---and requires a knife to remove! JPDIPSO (4926), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 2, 2007 Heavily hazed dark copper colored liquid. Smallish, but quit stable ecru head. Lots of hops in the aroma, with a predominance of ruby red grapefruit. Light sweet pale malt and just a hint of pine bark and caramel is present. Not a hugh aroma, but a pleasant and quite sedate scent for such a big brew. Big woody pine sap flavors! Some hints os caramel, toffee and sulfur. Flavors seem thin and one dimensional. There is no doubt this is an extension of the precursor. It still seem somewhat one dimensional. I must admit that I certainly do not sense that this one is the heft that it is states. hrking (108), Muncie, Indiana, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 1, 2007 All I can say is WOW ..I had this on a sit down with Mike Earnheart from Dark Horse in a personal sitdown with THE GOOD BEER SHOW. This beer was amazing! Even though I had several beers that day this one kicked my ass. It fell somewhere between a Dogfish Head 90 and a Dreadnaught! Smooth creamy IPA without the overpowering typical cat piss aroma you get from other IPA’s. This beer was dry hopped to improve the aroma and it worked. All I can say is WOW..THANX MIKE!
