Commercial Description:
Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

Thanks to Bobby91w for this one! Pours a cloudy dark copper, with a small head. Nose of sweet, sticky brown sugar malts, countering (and somewhat overpowering) a big hop contingent, and covering the alcohol. WOO! Big brew! This one’s unbelievably thick, and the hops are much more present in the flavor, especially as the malts fade and the bitter aftertaste lingers. It’s an oaky, caramelly hop bomb that coats your mouth like no other. They went a bit overboard on the malts, and I think it’s actually too thick for this style (this is approaching 120 min. territory), but I will admit it covers the 13.6% remarkably well. Definitely enjoyed this one.

With great thanks to HogTownHarry - shared with me before a Toronto Bluejays game - the start of a Harry and Al tradition! Appearance: Brown/orange, lots of white floaties, large orange head. Aroma: Wonderful hop, pineapple, yeast, caramel, malt and grapefruit. Flavour: HUGE hop bang, caramel, floral notes, sticky mouth feel, malt and yeast, nice long hoppy finish with barely a trace of alcohol.

This is a serious brew. Pours cloudy brown with a thin head. Aroma of citrus hops and caramel. This beer has a full body and you could tell it packed 13% ABV. Full bodied and thick. Very good beer.

Pours a cloudy nut brown with a small off-white head that quickly diminishes. Aroma is moderately sweet with caramel, grapefruit, peach, apricot and light orange. Flavor is caramel, grapefruit, light apricot and woody. Full bodied, sticky texture. Better than I expected however the balance is too much toward the malt for the style..

Fantastic double IPA. I was surprised by the lack of heat for 13.6 - usually covered up with bitterness and warrior hops at this this high ABV, this beer drank smoothly and I never felt the heat I was expecting (like an Old Stock Ale 2008 type of heat). Nice, soft palate, correct viscosity, slightly sweet, very subtle bitterness for a double.

Bottle from Jan. Big thanks> Green wax cap.Pours a cloudy orange amber. Orangy citrus & marmalade aromas along with sweet malts & resiny sticky hops. Taste is sweeter malts, nice hop burn but not as much as you would expect in a 13.6 beer. Not as boozy also. Rich like a barleywine. Nice fuller mouthfeel. Very good

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip. Color is deep amber with small tan head. Aroma is hoppy, but balanced by a lot of malty sweetness and fruit (apples, dates). Taste is similar to Double Bastard to me, hoppy and rich, with sweet malt and biting hops and alcohol. Medium mouthfeel with nice carbonation. Not my fave DIPA, but pretty good.

From a trade with Eric in Indiana, this 12 oz bottle with the wax top poured a dark and hazy copper with a small but creamy off-white head and light lacing. Nose of caramel malts and lots of pine and citrus hops. Very slick mouthfeel feeling more like a barely wine on the palate than anything else. Flavor is malty but also nicely bitter with lots of pine and citrus and the finish is long and bitter. It hides the high alcohol content remarkably well. Excellent in all regards. Score of 8.0 for four stars.
