Commercial Description:
Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "the Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops, they’re just not fast enough. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us). 98 IBU's

Snifter on cask at Dark Horse. The pour was ruddy amber with no head. Smell was overwhelmingly pine hops with traces of orange citrus and caramel. Taste is extremely resinous, like it’s flavored with concentrated hop oil instead of the flower itself. The lack of carbonation makes it feel more like a hop wine than a beer. An interesting experience, but I think I prefer my IPAs served up the boring ’Merican way.

Bonus bottle from trade with Scoobydank. Pours a deep golden brown with a dirty white head. Nose is very fresh sweet hoppiness with hints of grapefruit. THe entry has a nice sweet malt back with spicy hop tones. Flavors continue to grow with notes of candy apple and a floral pine. Alcohol gets warmer through the drink. Mouth is really flat a little disappointing. syrupy with a slight bitterness. Well flavored DIPA!

12 oz bottle. Thought CT was ok, so I figured why not. Pours a dark reddish brown with a small white head that in typical DH fashion dies quickly. Smells of lots of citrus, some hops, and a bit of alcohol. Tastes of citrus, grapefruit I think, a fair bit of hops, and some alcohol. The taste is much weaker than I was expecting, though maybe I’ve been spoiled by Hopslam, Dreadnaught, and 90 min. Goes down fairly smoothly. Good, but not great, far from it.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark orange color with a compact off-white head. Huge hop aroma shows intense pine, resin, grapefruit nectar. Almost Dreadnaught-esque. Very nice blast of hops in the nose. Flavor is surprisingly drinkable, very well balanced with just a touch of alcohol heat. ABV is well hidden even with this fresh sample. This is probably more like a Barleywine but it’s certainly one of the best beers of this strength I’ve had. Significantly better than similar offers from DFH and Founder’s.

2009 bottle un-waxed. drank fresh. I will have to go back and re-rate this one after it gets some age on it. i know it can be way better. pours a super dark amber/red, almost brown. no real head to speak of. aroma is tons of malt and alcohol with just a little hop coming through. taste is the same with tons of roasted malts and no real hops on the tongue. finishes hot with alcohol and has a bittersweet aftertaste that lingers.

Bottle 355ml.
Light unclear medium amber orange color with a average, frothy - creamy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, heavy hoppy, pine, grapefruit, orange, alcohol. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration and a dry finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - syrupy, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20081122]

No wax seal this year. Amber pour with a thin dark white head. Aroma is of hops-grapefruit and pine. Taste malt for a sec then the hps take over.Hop and malt aftertatse. For 13.6 ABV, the alcohol is not noticeable. It is a nice well-balanced beer. Only negative was the head that went away too quick.

pours hazy medium orange with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is slightly malty of cookies, heavily hoppy of pine, grapefruit and lemon. heavily yeasty of leather , apples and cherries. Flavor is well balanced for an IPA, nice nutty malty backbone, piny and citrys hops dominate. Medium to full bodied, creamy and softly carbonated, light alcohol in the finish.
