May 8, 2008 Bottle: Pours very dark with almost no head. Aroma of molasses and smoked malt. Flavor of molasses, smoked malt and coffee. Very good.

May 2, 2008 Pour is dark black with an average cocoa head. Not a lot of smoke noticed in the aroma. That is okay with me as I prefer the smokiness to be more subtle as opposed to dominant. Lots of chocolate with faint smoke notes. Creamy smooth palate. Rich beer and not like I expected. A nice treat. My kind of smoked beer. Another winner from Dark Horse, which is quickly moving into my top tier of breweries around.

May 1, 2008 Dark beer with a thin brown head. Smoke, chocolate and molasses all in the deep, silky nose. Nice full bodied beer. Lots of bitter chocolate, burnt toast, molasses, clean wood smoke, and alcohol. Not greasey like some smoked beers. Really a well blended, well balanced treat.

Apr 29, 2008 Thanks to hophead75 for sharing. Pours a deep charcoal black- almsot opaque just like thier other stouts- head is thin. Aroma is toasty- tons of chocolate malt and the smoke is noticed but not intense. Flavor has a bit more smoke, but the chocolate malts dominate- has some licorice, and almost an oily feel and a smooth finish. Great stout as expected from DH.

Apr 28, 2008 Flossmoor tasting. Pours Black with a brown head. Sweet with some druness. Some smoke aromas. Also roasteed malts and dark chocolate. Finish is dry and a bit sour with a hint of resin.

Apr 24, 2008 12 oz bottle from Stine. Black in color with a small light brown head. Aroma is very nice- chocolate, moderate roast/coffee, some hints of smoke. Taste is roasty with chocolate, moderately sweet, with a nice smooth body. Some hints of smoke in the finish, but I would’ve liked more personally. Overall a very good stout. Thanks Eben.

Apr 22, 2008 I was afraid this was going to remind me of cocktail weenies, but thankfully it’s not entirely true to style. On tap@ Dark Horse 12/30/07. Poured a dark, dark brown with a tan head, releasing notes of coffee, roasted malt, and chocolate. Flavor reminds me of smoked chocolate, and not smoked meat which is why I finished this beer and enjoyed it.

Apr 20, 2008 Bottle from Stine - thanks! Dark, blackish color wiht a nice looking tan head. Aroma has a nice mix of smoke, chocolate, coffee, and cream. Flavor is roasty, smoky and chocked full o dark chocolate. Nice body and a thick finish. Good - but not really a smoked. Just call it a good stout and be satisfied.
