| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with hardly any head. Aroma of sweet, rich, roasted malt, booze, and a touch of smoke. Flavor is sweet initially with some light smoky flavors (but not smoked meats). Weak-ish palate. Ok, but I like the other Dark Horse stouts better.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Bottle, thanks to tjthresh. Aroma of roasted nuts, chocolate, lightly smokey and peaty. Flavor is increasingly peaty though the level of smoke is far lower than that of most beers classified as such on here. Not that that’s a problem, the smoke here is more of a complex addition to a deeply chocolatey stout, and gives the beer an earthy, more roasty, sort of herbal side to things, all seemingly through the smoke. Sort of a ’tweener in terms of stout vs. smoked, and either way, interesting and tasty. oh6gdx (8839), Vasa, Finland
