| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2008 12 oz. bottle, consumed on 11-16-08. Tart aroma features coffee, apricot, dark chocolate, bonfire, charcoal, cream or butter, and fruit, especially strawberry, scents. Pours a thick, nearly black, very dark brown with a golden hue and a small amount of sable to dark beige head. Smoky, charcoal flavor. Fruit juice taste. bitter bite on the back of the tongue that I believe derives from the burn malts but may come from the hops. A bit tarry. After multiple sips, a sweet, fruit punch, creamsicle-like flavor with some lingering bitterness comes to dominate the taste. Smoky, burnt aftertaste. Light to medium body. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 11, 2008 [Bottle] Pours absolutely pitch opaque black with a small very dark head that disappears quickly and is barely revivable. Aroma is sweeter than I was expecting, but not altogether that sweet, a touch of woody smoke, lots of roasted barley, and a little bit of chocolate covered cherries. The flavor initially is more roasty than smoky, but the smoke builds until it engulfs the rest of the flavors, especially on the finish, which is also quite dry. A bitter roastiness lingers along with the woodiness. lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 9, 2008 Cracked open with a little carbonation, poured thick and dark just like it should, but no real aroma popped out on the pour or once it was in the glass. Nice full thick mouthfeel. The flavor was subtle overall though, slightly smoked chocolate, which seems to display itself more throughout the glass. Halfway through a little more chocolate and roast comes out, with the same subtle smoke presence overtop of everything. Malt is also a lot more present at this point. Great drinkability, and would love to have again fresh. Soonah (965), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 5, 2008 From masonjer via trade. Super dark, semi-viscous pour with a short tan head and not much lacing. The aroma was lots of smokey campfire, chocolate, roasted malt and even bit of sour cherry. The flavor was smoke, chocolate, malt and espresso. The mouthfeel was average which I found surprising considering the pour. I found it to be quite nice overall. theisti (1684), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2008 12 oz bottle generously shared by csbosox. Pour is jet black, oily and inky with only a thin tan head. Aroma of peat, soy and coffee roastiness. Taste is flat coffee, roast is there, peat and smoke are muted, though present. A bit of soft cocoa. Palate is medium, even a bit on the thin side of medium. Overall a tasty stout, thanks for opening this one Chris. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA

Pretty overwhelming. Smoked ham, bacon, charcoal, and burnt stuff. Appealing, not subtle at all. The pour scared me.
