Burnt coffee, burnt chocolate and burnt black malt aroma with hints of dry barley. Soft, thick and lightly fizzy. Not smoked at all, but merely charred with loads of seared malt flavors and a bittersweet cocoa and coffee aftertaste. Very silky feel to it as it sits. Medium full body. Carbonation lessens. Long, brooding dark malts linger with an emphatic black malt harshness. Turns a little oily late with an emerging hop bitterness and burps. Finishes with a dominating black malt astringency and some hints of oat smoothness. Fairly high alcohol it seems as well. Very good.

Small sized, quickly diminishing, tan foamy head. The aroma is slightly smoky, chocolate and coffee. A medium bodied smoked stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee with a touch of smoke. The hops are earthy. Hints of tobacco, old cigars and wood. Nicely balance. The smokiness adds to the stout flavors very nicely. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is very smooth and clean. The aftertaste is slightly bitter. blutt59 (2114), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 23, 2009 The most intensely flavored black ale that I have ever tried! Makes many imperial stouts seem bland! Completely black color, and modest head. Medium body. Smoke in aroma and taste is noticeable, but doesn’t hide the deep roasted malt flavor.
