patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Apr 10, 2007 tap at the brewpub - Pours a medium brown color and has a mild caramel malt aroma. The flavor has some moderate hops, caramel and/or chocolate malts, and light fruit notes. This ale is bubbly on the palate and medium bodied. Pretty good. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Apr 7, 2007 Updated: Apr 13, 2007Draft at Dark Horse as well as a growler. Brown body with reddish tint and a light tan head. Pour hazy brown color with slight tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate. Flavor is again roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, some nut, lightly acidic. Palate is medium bodied, medium carboantion, semi-sweet finish. Solid, just not great. Silphium (2114), Haslett, Michigan, USA Feb 25, 2007 Sampled at the 2nd annual Michigan Winter Beer Festival, Lansing. Murky orange-brown body, thin buff head. Reminded me a lot of their Boffo Brown Ale, which was also featured at the fest. Bitter, roasty body with chocolate and toast, a touch nutty, with light tannins imparted by elderberries. This was a packed booth all day, as their stouts are really starting to gain much deserved accolades.
