Pours s deep black, viscous with a limited dark-tan head, leaving an iodine-colored lacing along the the sides of the glass when I swirl (have to admit I find that yellow tone somewhat offputting). Dark-roast aroma, hints of cherry juice. Roasty, almost smoky flavor, plenty of hops driving the whole affair to a relatively bitter finish. Tar, coffee, a whisp of soy sauce, mild sweetness.
Altogether quite a nice beer. jcr (1153), Jasper, Indiana, USA

Black body with a foamy, tan head that disappears. Aromas of vanilla, coffee, chocolate, roasted malt. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. The finish is bitter.Flavors of licorice, espresso. Medium body, creamy smooth texture. Moderate carbonation. Very nice.

The oatmeal was prominent in the nose and mouth along with a smokey/metallic edge. This was meidum-bodied, smooth and engaging. redlight (1475), Winter Park, Florida, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2008 12oz bottle. Aroma has notes of wood, oats, roasted malt, cocoa, red wine, molasses, and coffee. Small tan head that fully diminished and left little lace. Pitch black hue. Flavor is sweet with hints of coffee, cocoa, dark ripe fruit, and wood. Palate is very full bodied and oily flat. Very slight alcohol burn. A very good stout. You have to drink this one with a knife and fork it’s so thick. My favorite one out of the DH stout series.
