The creamy spattered froth only rises a fingers width, but has a beautiful bronze color. Head retention is a little short lived and rduces to a partial yet fluffy lace. Aromas of creamy roasted leathery malts makes my mouth water. Full nectar w/ soft and velvety residual effers creates a rather sensuous brew. The brew glides in silky then turns to velvet on the way down. The mildly sweet flavor profile starts out w/ heavily roasted viscous malts. Then the defined asprin bittering component kicks in to balance. Roasted coffee bean, bitter cocoa, leather, and bit-o-black cherry. The finish is long and savory leaving behind a tastey roasted cocoa residue and a perfect bittering component. Highly recommended. jah noth (1020), Rochester, New York, USA

Sweetish cream aroma with some roasty in the background. Oh wow! Rich and creamy, silky with lots of velvet - they have not skimped on the oats here. Nice amount of roasted flavor, not too sweet, with a fine bitterness intact. This is a great stout! Thanks Brad. gunhaver (1043), Tampa, Florida, USA

Creamy head with nice lacing. Roasted malts in the nose, chocolate and oats, vanilla, and coffee beans. Tons of roasted malts in the mouth, chocolate, coffee, oats, cereal. Finish is big and has tons of roasted notes. Body is somewhat light, extremely drinkable. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 19, 2005 Big thick pour, opaque and black in color with some cascading dark tan lace. Bless this brewery. Blackened oats, singed with love, elevate the aroma while burr grinded French roast coffee dust is sprinkled sporadically for extra character and complexity. Rich bitter grinds strike heavy and fast for the flavor composite. Hints of licorice flitter about, joining a waxy, ensconcing palate that bites off more than it should chew, and I’ve got no problem taking down its regurgitation. Black malts and far reaching bitterness celebrate the multi-dimensional intrigue of the tongue. Loving it as always. Thanks so much for bringing this along, Silphium! mtoast (315), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Black with a thin ring of light brown foam, fades to a thin layer rather quickly with decent lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate with just a hint of yeast fruitiness. Big dark chocolate flavor, some nice roast malt, firm bitterness on the finish. Really impressed, was expecting a lack luster watery stout. JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

I was warned that this might be past prime, but it’s pretty damn delicious. Pitch black topped by a thin espresso crema head. Aroma is quite lovely. Rich cocoa and espresso with a luxurious dark chocolate nose. Fairly roasty with lots of dark rich sweet maltiness. A bit of tobaccoish/leathery character as well. The flavour is great. Soft rich milk chocolate, molasses and a lingering soft sweetness. Smooth oaty/creamy palate. Excellent rich body, softly herbal through the middle with a touch of sweet plummy fruit as well. Soft lightly roasty chocolate finish. Really tasty. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA

The aroma is immeadiatly apparent and very nice. Lots of roasted malt notes with some chocolate. The flavor isn’t that special until it gets to the point where it is almost too warm. There is a ton of chocolate in the flavor and some light roasted malts in the finish rounding out a nice delicious brew with a dry roast aftertatse. This one is very well done. Roasty chocolate malt aroma, plus some molasses, chocoff, and nuts. Tastes roasty chocolate malty, with molasses, chocoff, slight dark fruit as it warms, and a rich, dense, complex palate. Stays somewhat dry. Delicious.
