A very black beer on the pour and in the gless. Slim but stout dark cocoa tinted capping of thick foam sits briefly before slipping away to a super fine collar. A few spots of lace stick here and there, but most drips back into the liquid quickly and oily. Aroma is roasty and oily of burnt cookies and some moderate chocolate-like sweetness. A bit of oatyness and dark cherry rum heat emerges as it sits. Good taste of roasted barley and grains with just a hint of burntness to the edges and a slant of spent coffee. Semi sweet underneath with a bit of cherry, chocolate, and oats. Quite creamy and quick with a slick medium body that oothes all sorts of silky, soft, and smooth chocolateyness. Mind you, there’s not a whole lot of chocolate in the taste, but the feel speaks well of a firm chocolate milk with a nice little roasty bite to its finish that lasts well and keeps a tender balance of dryness floating at the bit. A pretty solid Oaty Stout with a calmingly easy, milky smooth drinkability.

Pours dark brown/black with a again a dark brown head. Aroma: Roasted nut, cocoa butter, molasses. Flavors are oatmeal and roasted malts with a well balanced hopped bitterness. One of the many great Dark Horse stouts.

On tap at the Institute in Philly. Pours an opaque, oily black with a lacing, creamy tan head. Sweet aroma, brown sugar, nuts, coffee. Strong chocolate flavor with coffee, nuts, toast, burnt grains, molasses and a little smoke. Full bodied, sweet with a touch of bitterness on the end. Very nice. Even flavor while still being bold.

$8.99 / 4 Pack ---As expected, this is a fantastic oatmeal stout from Dark Horse. This is my first beer from this brewery and I’m impressed. Nothing looks more wonderful than pitch black beer topped with dark mocha head. Nice roasty malts with mocha and coffee. Finally, a beer I can rate in the 4 region again--bit of a drought lately.

Finally got to try one of these stouts. A very nice well-rounded stout with a nice malty flavor and dry bitter finish. The oatmeal adds to the aroma and texture. Soft palate but not overly full bodied. Easily drinkable and enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours near black with a mocha brown head. Roasty malty and coffee aroma with some sweeter malt notes. The flavor has smooth roasted coffee and oats with a light chocolate sweetness. Really good.
