JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Jan 9, 2009 This one didn’t work out. Some coffee and malt, but the coffee does not blend well with the caramel bock flavors. Brown color. Far from their best. timsilvia32 (445), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Jan 8, 2009 A pretty dark brown pour with an off white head. Aroma is mostly coffee with a bit of malt and nut. Flavor, is actually not that different than the aroma. There is not much dopplebock in this one. Roasty coffee accented with some toffee and a hint of mocha. Rather lively carbonation. Just the faintest bit of fuit/lager type flavor in the through. It is a bit light, but is very drinkable, and a lot of flavor compared to most beers this drinkable. Certainly unique, this is the type of brew that isn’t going to have too many people in between on. tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Jan 3, 2009 12 ounce bottle. Pours dark brown with some nice ruby red highlights when held to light. Nice tan head. Nice cup of Joe aroma. The flavor has a nice bit of coffee with some caramel character. Ahh, the problem arises. This think is water thin and just kind of disappears from you palate. Not bad, but certainly leaves you wanting. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 31, 2008 Darker brown color with a sweet aroma of dark breads, coffee, and prunes. Flavor is quite sweet with a big coffee/burnt sugar and chocolate mix. Flavorful, but thin at the end. Nice coffee brew. Jwasciuk (194), Lowell, Michigan, USA Dec 29, 2008 Pours dark brown with a frothy light brown head. Aroma is moderatly malty of cookies, lightly hoppy piney notes, lightly yeaty maybe bananas and definatly coffee. Flavor is well balanced with espresso roast and crystal carmel malts, heavily bitter and slightly burnt flavors. Medium bodied, oily and lively carbonated. glkaiser (1150), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 26, 2008 Murky brown with thin head. Big coffee aroma and tast is right up my alley. Balanced with good dose of sweet malt with some chocolate and minimal bitterness. Many coffee beers come off overly bitter and astringent, but this is not at all. Smooth and full of coffee. Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Dec 25, 2008 Pours a brownish color with thin off white head. Aroma is roasted coffee, sweet malt, and a light spiciness. Taste is intense roasted coffee with the sweet malt and light fruitiness coming in the end. Easy drinking if you are into coffee. It is funny how well coffee goes with a doppelbock compared to a stout. bellmyer (41), EAST MOLINE, Illinois, USA Dec 24, 2008 Pour is a deep coffee brown with an off white head that does not hang around too long. Smell is, you guessed it, heavy on the coffee. Flavor is, amazingly, coffee. There is some malt in there as well, but it is definitely a coffee flavor. This brew goes down surprisingly easy for a coffee beer. If you are in the mood for coffee with alcohol but mixing a cup of joe with some Baileys is too much work, I would recommend this brew.
