Commercial Description:
This is a true dopplebock and Dark Horse Brewing’s only publicly distributed lager. It was so normal that we couldn’t stand it so we made it into a coffee dopplebock. Ha, take that Germany, with your Reinheitsgebot purity law! Anyway, we use fair trade organic coffee from our friends at The Ugly Mug Cafe in Ypsilanti, MI We did a label contest and opened it up to the public for this beer. We had so many awesome entries that we couldn’t just pick one winner so we have 2 labels for this beer. We stagger the bottles in the six packs but with no order in mind.

Not bad. Amber pour with a 1 inch head. Sediment in bottom. Heavy coffee aroma. Taste is a blend of coffee and sweet malt. Nice little alcohol kick as well.

This one didn’t work out. Some coffee and malt, but the coffee does not blend well with the caramel bock flavors. Brown color. Far from their best.

A pretty dark brown pour with an off white head. Aroma is mostly coffee with a bit of malt and nut. Flavor, is actually not that different than the aroma. There is not much dopplebock in this one. Roasty coffee accented with some toffee and a hint of mocha. Rather lively carbonation. Just the faintest bit of fuit/lager type flavor in the through. It is a bit light, but is very drinkable, and a lot of flavor compared to most beers this drinkable. Certainly unique, this is the type of brew that isn’t going to have too many people in between on.

12 ounce bottle. Pours dark brown with some nice ruby red highlights when held to light. Nice tan head. Nice cup of Joe aroma. The flavor has a nice bit of coffee with some caramel character. Ahh, the problem arises. This think is water thin and just kind of disappears from you palate. Not bad, but certainly leaves you wanting.

Darker brown color with a sweet aroma of dark breads, coffee, and prunes. Flavor is quite sweet with a big coffee/burnt sugar and chocolate mix. Flavorful, but thin at the end. Nice coffee brew.

Pours dark brown with a frothy light brown head. Aroma is moderatly malty of cookies, lightly hoppy piney notes, lightly yeaty maybe bananas and definatly coffee. Flavor is well balanced with espresso roast and crystal carmel malts, heavily bitter and slightly burnt flavors. Medium bodied, oily and lively carbonated.

Murky brown with thin head. Big coffee aroma and tast is right up my alley. Balanced with good dose of sweet malt with some chocolate and minimal bitterness. Many coffee beers come off overly bitter and astringent, but this is not at all. Smooth and full of coffee.

Pours a brownish color with thin off white head. Aroma is roasted coffee, sweet malt, and a light spiciness. Taste is intense roasted coffee with the sweet malt and light fruitiness coming in the end. Easy drinking if you are into coffee. It is funny how well coffee goes with a doppelbock compared to a stout.
