Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Apr 30, 2009 Dark brown with no head. Aroma is dark fruit with coffee and chocolate. Flavor is exactly the same as the aroma with the chocolate providing a deep resonance. A hop based zing lights up the mouth is assisted by alcohol. A nice and flavorful beer.. soccer290 (135), Highland Park, Illinois, USA Apr 29, 2009 12 oz bottle. Looked interesting, split the 4pk 4 ways, so it was cheap too. Pours a traditional dark horse no head, but is black with hints of brown around the corners. You can smell this from the second you crack open the bottle. Tons of coffee comes at you. I love coffee beers, but this does not smell like good coffee. Having said that, if you have a congested nasal cavity, this might clear it out. Tastes of roasted (over-roasted in my opinion) coffee, and thats about it. Little bit of an after taste, but it goes down smooth. Really this is a roasted iced coffee (with unknown amount of alcohol). Interesting, but a little boring. lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA Apr 13, 2009 Cracked open with a decent amount of fuzz, so its got to be decently fresh. Nice aroma as soon as it hit the bottle with a dark brown/red color. Taste is coffee and not much else. Doesn’t leave much of an aftertaste at all. I dont know if its alcohol burn or burnt coffee in the overall taste. It could use more malt in the body, feels a little light for a dopplebock even. Decent. Had to try it, but i dont think i’d do it again. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Apr 5, 2009 Liquid Sunshine V. Very cool concept--they get some originality points for sure. 12-oz. Crystal clear medium rubied amber. No head. No lace. Big light-roast coffee bean nose. Creamy medium body, very low carb. The coffee dominates the mid-palate as well, but some caramel and nutty, woody notes emerge to balance it out. BillKismet (1894), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 5, 2009 Headless and of a burning sky sunset orange color. Lifeless looking body. Intense burnt coffee grain dominates the aroma. The body is likewise decidedly grainy, with burnt coffee roast, and roast barley. Somewhere, black pepper makes an appearance. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Apr 5, 2009 Brown with a thin white head. Aroma is coffee, crystal malt, smoked malt.
Taste is smokey, light caramel, chocolate, coffee, notalush (2626), Denver, Colorado, USA Apr 4, 2009 Pours a foamy brownish red, with some grainy floaties suspended in the glass - the aroma is an interesting mix of the caramel and raisin of a doppel and the bitter and nutty character of coffee - the coffee used is either of poor quality, or poorly extracted in the brewing process, though, as the coffee smells old and/or crappy - full carbonation in the mouth - flavors of old coffee and tobacco leaves - a bit of caramel and nutty character - a little fruity on the back - quite a bit of alcohol flavor in the finish, but not much of a burn - it’s decent, but the poor quality of the coffee makes it less enjoyable. wmubronco1992 (176), Coldwater, Michigan, USA Mar 31, 2009 Bottle - Pours a dark black with hints of red. Almost no head. Very little lacing. Strong coffee aroma. Tastes of coffee and licorice. Nice lingering mouthfeel. Interesting beer. Not one of my personal Darkhorse favorites, but I appreciate its uniqueness. Never had a bad beer from this brewery.
