| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 12, 2007 Clear chestnut with a small beige head. Coffee hits the nose first followed by some caramel malt, dough, chocolate, and brown sugar. Coffee dominates the flavor with the other aromatic elements singing back-up. Medium bodied. Not a true doppelbock in my opinion with the coffee all but masking the doppelbock characteristics. Still, a decent drink. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 22, 2008 12oz from mibirder - thanks, Sean! My bottle doesn’t have the death metal label, alas. The pour is dark amber, with only modest carbonation that yields a faint head and only a hint of lacing. Slightly dusty cinnamon seems to mix in with the strong chocolate malts in the nose and the relatively understated coffee smells. Nice soft toffee and biscuity malts in the taste. But, much like Ithaca’s Kaffinator, this just doesn’t seem like a doppelbock. An enjoyable beer for what it is. sunevdj (1788), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

Moderate sweetness with a light bitterness and light acidic - vinegarish notes. Malty aromas of molasses and coffee. Light herbal hops notes. Hints of leather and cask wood. Also hints of green pepper fruits. Medium bodied with a thin, oily mouthfeel. Softish carbonation. Bitter finish. tjthresh (1782), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 3, 2009 12 ounce bottle. Pours dark brown with some nice ruby red highlights when held to light. Nice tan head. Nice cup of Joe aroma. The flavor has a nice bit of coffee with some caramel character. Ahh, the problem arises. This think is water thin and just kind of disappears from you palate. Not bad, but certainly leaves you wanting. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

Medium body is a bit thin and flimsy. blipp (1765), Newark, New Jersey, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 9, 2008 I love the picture on this thing and the vibe at the brewery that matches it. This is very malty , thick caramel and some coffee overtones. Prolly my favorite beer from dark horse. The hops and alcohol come through right towards the end, but it is really blended well with the maltiness for a grand drinking experience.
